OXYGEN BOMB CALORIMETER
INTRODUCTION
Calorimetry is the science of measuring the heat of chemical reactions or physical changes. Calorimetry is performed with a calorimeter. The most common types of calorimeters are the following: Differential scanning calorimeters, isothermal microcalorimeters, titration calorimeters and accelerated rate calorimeters.

Another type of calorimeter is an Oxygen Bomb Calorimeter. An Oxygen Bomb Calorimeter is used to measure heat of combustion by means of determining the enthalpy of combustion. Since combustion reactions are usually exothermic or gives off heat, therefore the enthalpy is negative. In conducting a calorimetric test using a bomb calorimeter, the substance or object to be studied is placed inside the combustion crucible and ignited. The resulting reaction usually occurs so quickly that it resembles the explosion of a bomb-hence, the name "bomb calorimeter."  PARTS OF AN OXYGEN BOMB CALORIMETER

It is showed in the figure 1, the parts of an oxygen bomb calorimeter. It is composed of a Motorized stirrer, ignition wires, thermometer, insulated container, oxygen inlet, reaction chamber or the BOMB, fine wire in contact with the sample, cup holding sample, and water.
