Chapter I - Introduction
There are many dangerous chemicals in our surroundings most of them can be located inside our own homes. Almost every household would contain stain remover like zonrox, chlorine otherwise called chlorox and many other harmful chemicals that is the reason why we decided to focus this investigatory project on creating an eco- friendly cleaning solution. The problem of the modern world is that we have created far too much hazardous chemical since it does the daily chores, like that removing stains on clothes, unknowing that this can harm the ozone layer. Our investigatory project aims to create an environment- friendly cleaning solution using citrus extracts. With this investigation, we hope to find the answer to our problem; “Can we be able to create an environment- friendly cleaning solution from citric acid? Hopefully, it is possible and we can be able to help be a factor of the movement against pollution. A. Background of the Study
Citrofortunella microcarpa, the Calamondin or Calamansi, is a fruit tree in the family Rutaceae(Citrus Family) native to the Philippine Islands and has been dubbed the calamondin, golden lime, panama orange, chinese orange, acid orange, calamonding, or calamandarin in English. It is believed to originate from China and has spread throughout Southeast Asia, India, Hawaii, the West Indies, Central and North America. The plant is characterized by wing-like appendages on the leaf stalks and white or purplish flowers. Its fruit has either a spongy or leathery rind with a juicy pulp that is divided into sections. We choose calamansi to substitute different stain removers, because citric acid added by a sodium chloride can remove a stain on clothes according to some references. This product can give solution in replacing those chemical stain removers, because this product is eco-friendly and cheaper. B. Statement of the Problem
1. Can calamansi stain remover replace the chemical stain remover? 2. What are the benefits of using the calamansi stain remover? 3. Who will benefit in using calamansi stain remover?
4. How is the compound of the calamansi that can remove the stains? 5. Is this calamansi stain remover can be prepared easily?
The preparation of this product is cheaper and easy so many people will make it as alternative substitute to chemical stain removers. NEGATIVE:
The smell of it is sour and to those people not practical on the smell of it won’t use it C. Objectives of the Study
1. To have an alternative remover of stains on clothes.
2. To save money in buying chemical stain remover.
3. To have an eco-friendly stain remover.
4. To use a natural product in removing stains.
5. To avoid using hazardous liquid in removing stains.
D. Significance of the Study
In our time now, the environment of our world is getting worse and worse most especially our ozone layer, which is continuing to be thinner and thinner. One of the causes of this tragic reality is some of the chemicals and substances used in solution products for cleaning and the like.
Based on the researches, chemical stain removers contain a number of substances such as ammonium hydrogen bi-fluoride and hydrofluoric acid that can be corrosive and a hazard not only to humans but also to the environment. So the main goal of the group is to change the chemical stain remover containing the said substances and other, more dangerous chemicals. With this investigatory project, a better cleaning solution will be created using much cheaper and more effective materials such as citrus fruit namely calamansi of calmondin. Improvisations can be made causing us much...
