CBK Reflection Essay
Entering the CBK, I found myself ready with an open mind on what I would like to do from here on with my life. Not being able to graduate on time has made me think about where my goals lie and where they are going to be now this upcoming school year. This year, my first and biggest goal is being able to graduate and receive my diploma, then I would like to go through the work training offered by the school, and finally I would like to leave the school with a job. I am only five credits away from being able to receive my diploma. During actual high school, I struggled because of my own personal issues stopping me from achieving my goal and because of that I was not able to walk with my class. This experience has made me strengthen …show more content…
The job training offered would help me prepare for the work force. The program would show how to do things, such as making a resume, and show me basic skills that would be helpful in the adult world. The program also helps with getting a paid internship. The basic skills they teach me would help with multiple situations that I would be grateful for allowing me to then get a job and support myself on my own. Finally, getting a job would be the next logical thing to do. Using the skills from the job training program, I could apply for nearby jobs and hopefully get hired. Once hired, I could support myself and, while supporting myself, begin a savings account. I will put money away until I can go back to school. During the time I take off, I’ll explore my options for community college and see where I will go with my life from there. In conclusion, I have gone through many struggles in the past year but I have still allowed myself to create goals because I will not give up. These would be my goals and how I plan to achieve them while being in the CBK program. I may have had some struggles but I do not plan to let those get in the way of my future. The first step into my future is planning and taking steps toward my

Ray Bradbury’s “The Sound of Thunder” and Gloria Skurzynski’s “Nethergrave” are both good science fiction stories. These stories are both about scientific technology changing the life of a certain person, although there are a few different themes in these stories. In, “The Sound of Thunder,” Eckells has a rude awakening when he realizes that he will be facing harsh consequences due to the fact that he didn’t obey the few rules that were given at the beginning of his journey. In “Nethergrave,” Jeremy chooses to revolve his life around the virtual world, rather than the real world where he is constantly bullied and usually feeling embarrassed, abandoned and sometimes hurt. However, both of these characters are rather similar, as they are both being selfish in an unselfish way without realizing that they are in fact being selfish. Both of these stories revolve around the effect certain choices have on others’ future and even your own future.…

In the beginning of my freshman year in high school I have always been into JROTC, which led me to understand others and be a well-communicating person. It all started four years ago when I joined JROTC. I wanted to see how it worked and how it was beneficial to me. I must admit it was difficult in the beginning with being shy and not knowing what exactly I got myself into but that quickly changed once I started going to parades and football games.…

    my first conk essay

In Malcolm X’s excerpt My First Conk, He describes the process to get a conk. He talks about how his friend will do it for free instead of paying for it. He then goes on to list the items they need to buy to make the “congolene” to make the conk. They need “Red Devil lye, two eggs, and two medium- sized white potatoes… and a large jar of Vaseline, a large bar of soap.” Then the drugstore clerk comments about the Malcolm X getting a conk and Malcolm proudly says “Right!” He later goes on to describe the way the mixture is made and how the Red Devil lye makes the mixture burning hot. His friend tells him “it burns bad but the longer you can stand it, the straighter the hair.” He then proceeds to start to comb it into Malcolm X’s hair. Malcolm X says he did not go without a conk for many years. He says he comes to a realization in his later years. He says the conk is one of the most self-degrading looks any black man can have. He also says he is not exempting himself from that category. He does not understand the fascination of black men both rich and dirt poor conking just to look like white men. He states “if they gave the brains in their heads just half as much attention as they do their hair, they would be a thousand times better off.” At the time this was written many black men regularly conked their hair. Malcolm X may have had different reasons for getting a conk than another person who conked their hair; this paper will exemplify the reasons for conking, why Malcolm X’s views changed so drastically towards it, and why people change their appearances to “fit in”.…

A common theme throughout my high school career has been overcoming adversity, even when it did not seem possible to myself or others. During my freshman year, I developed an illness that caused me to miss school occasionally. As my English 101 class comes to an end there are many valuable lessons we learned in this class. We learned how to respond to the author. We learned how to write in the They Say/I Say style, which I plan on using this style to write in most of my papers from now on. Another lesson we learned in this class was how to create a thesis with tension. The lessons I learned in English 101 will most likely be used again as I progress on with English 102 as well as the rest of my college career.…

What sets my story apart from many is that my goals never changed despite such difficult odds. Yes, I had to stop and start a few times, but my drive to succeed in terms of my education never wavered. There are a lot of people that start school, stop and then move into a career or trade, with school far from their minds. Not me. My parents dreamed of me finishing and I’ve always wanted to be a pharmacist, so our dreams intersected and the culmination is my continued path to finish college and be successful. There isn’t a roadblock big enough to block my path now; as an older and wise student with a life full of exceptional cultural, educational and life experience behind me, I am well on my way to accomplishing those same goals I set for myself so many years…

I believe that my strongest position for ASB would be Sports commissioner due to me being an athlete at GFHS. Other positions I would like to run for would be Spirit commissioner and At Large commissioner. I believe that being Sports commissioner is a excellent position for me because I am part of both the Godinez Cross country and Track Varsity programs, both of which I have excelled in since I was a freshmen. Showing dedication and hard work on a sport can demonstrate my will power to perform at my best when I am placed with a task at hand. Characteristics that are needed on the position of sports which need lots of hard work and dedication to ensure that an athletic events receives as much support by the students of Godinez. I believe it is very important to have a background in sports in order to be a sports commissioner, since the main objective is to provide support at the sport games of GFHS.…
