CAS Hours Reflection
What I did for my CAS hours was summiting a drawing for a holiday poster contest and joining the girl's tennis team. The purposes of the experience were to undertake new challenges, knowing my limits, develop new skills and much more. I learned and obtained many things by completing the CAS hours. Joining the girl's tennis team provides me physical rewards because the team members and I had to exercise continuously 4 days for a week, which I’m not used to engaging in physical activities before. I submitted a drawing for the holiday poster contest which helps to promote the Coliseum Central Holiday parade and help me to understand my community better. While I was working on the activities for my CAS hours, I learned many things through the experience. I started my CAS hours by entering an art contest, a contest that all Hampton City Schools students are invited. Participate in a parade poster contest helps to promote Coliseum Central Holiday Parade, that is why I decided to enter (besides for the CAS hours). I submitted a drawing which took me at least 4 hours to complete, through all the effort and time the drawing looks amazing. Even …show more content…
I still do not know how to properly play tennis yet. Swinging the rackets and knowing the names for each type of swing are what I have learned, but I am still new with everything about tennis. I haven’t tried playing against another person yet and I do not know about the rules of tennis either. That’s why I will stay in the girl's tennis team to learn how to play tennis since I discovered that it’s a fun sport and I enjoy it a lot. Next year I will enter the holiday poster contest again, but I will spend more effort and have a unique idea for the drawing that I am going to submit. Within this topic, I will explore more into art and learn about its history, different styles, and some of the great

“Tennis is lonely. There is nowhere to hide when things go wrong. No dugout, no sideline, no neutral corner. It’s just you out there naked” (57). This quote may mean nothing to people who don’t play tennis, but for tennis players, it defines the way it feels on the tennis court. “It's no accident, I think, that tennis uses the language of life. Advantage, service, fault, break, love, the basic elements of tennis are those of everyday existence, because every match is a life in miniature. Even the structure of tennis, the way the pieces fit inside one another like Russian nesting dolls, mimics the structure of our days. Points become games become sets become tournaments, and it's all so tightly connected that any point can become the turning point. It reminds me of the way seconds become minutes become hours, and any hour can be our finest. Or darkest. It's our choice.” This is one of Andre’s most meaningful quotes from the book. Almost everyone who reads the quote, can learn a lot about life. Andre may be writing about tennis, but there are so countless universal themes that apply to…

Finding the occupational therapy assistant program at CCAC has helped me dedicate myself to a very important career path. While in high school at South Park, I was on the swim team and was the captain during my last year. While being involved with swimming, I also taught swimming lessons to children for five years. I have also been a dedicated employee at the South Park Clubhouse for the past six years and I'm still there. For two years of high school, I volunteered at a nonprofit haunted house, Hundred Acres Manor. I did all of this all while maintaining good grades.…

The same aggression to improve that I put into rising in ranks academically, I also put into my new sport of choice; tennis. From very early on, I have been determined to improve as a player and have thrown myself at any opportunity to do so. This drive has helped me transition from the bottom of varsity to the top-ranked male player and team captain for both my junior and senior years.…

I had always been a good child. No matter how much work I had, I did it. Even if I had two hours of homework, you could count on me to help you. Now that I am an adult, I realize what a wonderful childhood I had. I went to a great private school with the best teachers and students. I even had the privilege of having my very own textbooks. Those who weren’t as lucky, had textbooks destroyed by students who had them before they were even born. It might seem like all I cared about was school, but I loved to have fun. I played with my friends all weekend. My favorite activities to play outside were cricket and badminton. I wasn’t that great at cricket, but I was a formidable badminton opponent. In fact, I was so good that my friends refused to play me for fear of losing 21 to 0. When it was too hot during the summer, or too rainy during the monsoon season, my friends and I played card games. I enjoyed playing an Indian card game called “fish”, in which he goal is to get cards in a certain order. Both of my parents worked in offices, so I always got presents on holidays and my birthdays.…

For these next two assignments I have some specific goals for what I wish to accomplish in paper. My main goals are to pick a topic that is original and actually controversial. In my CAS 100 class when the class was assigned with to do a policy speech I aimed to find a topic which I was fairly ignorant on, in order to challenge myself. I decided to chose the topic of gentrification, since I felt it was a topic that many, including myself, weren’t very aware of the occurrence. Others on the other hand decided to pick topics which were, in my opinion, a little too easy. Topics such as global warming can easily “persuade” an audience with, considering this is an overwhelmingly liberal college. Other topics like sex trafficking were too easy for…

Monday: Tennis Drills #1 consisted of stretching, a quick jog around the court, four different drills and then another stretch. I started off with dynamic stretching and then a jog around the court. Once that was completed I started with my drills. First, a forehand drill was done in which I continuously returned the ball cross-court, making sure to hit the proper section of the court. When one side was being completed consistently, I switched to the other. Afterwards, I did the same cross-court drill but this time with backhand. The third drill consisted of wide serves on both the left and right sides of the court. I tried to make ten wide serves in a row without missing the correct square or hitting it down the line. The final drill was forehand and backhand volleys close to the net.…

Hello Mrs. Fernandez. When Torrence McCray and Emelina Valdez were added to my roster, in the end of February, I was asked if I could at least complete two hours for this month. To this request I replied that it was not only possible to complete two hours, but that if I was to carry one two hour session on Friday and another one on Saturday, I could complete four hours, at this time, it was not brought to my attention that two hour sessions are not advisable . Also, at the time of my engagement with this institution I received an email stating that "if you need to hold all the hours in one week, it is fine" this statement highlighted in green. Through this time when it has been needed either to meet the montly required hours or the students…

Aside from these extracurricular activities If I could obtain an extra “learning hour” I would use this hour a day to sit somewhere relaxing and read for an hour. I think by using this hour to not worry about anything and take my mind off of the world around me I could become a better reader and writer. Reading, writing, and public speaking are the main aspects that I really need improvement on.…
