1.0 Terms of reference: Recruitment is the process where the initial decision of a new staff is required. I decided to investigate at how Tesco recruits its staff. Tesco is a huge company that keeps on growing therefore needs to recruit on a regular basis for both the food and non-food parts of the business. So I will be describing the recruitment documentation used Tesco (P1); describing the main employability, personal and communication skills required when applying for a specific job role (P2); describing the main physical and technological resources required in the operation of Tesco (P3) and explaining how the management of human, physical and technological resources can improve the performance of the business organisation.
2.0 Procedure: In order to obtain the relevant information needed to address these issues , the following resources have to be used:
Textbook
Tesco website
Teacher handout and guide
2.0 Findings:
Here I will be describing Tesco recruitment process of the job role of sales assistant P1.
Curriculum Vitae (CV) Recruiters like Tesco look at a large number of CVs daily so will peruse it very quickly. That is why the relevant information must jump right out at them. When they scan the CVs of candidates, recruiters are looking for specific keywords thus it is always a good idea to include in your CV the exact terms found in the ads when they are advertising the job role. There a various methods of job advertisement these include that Greggs could use to advertise the position of Team member, they could advertise it internally by using the staff intranet for example, sending an email to all staff or advertising it on the staff notice board, this is simple cheap and very time efficient to do as Greggs can get an employee to write an advertisement up and post it on the same day. There are external ways to advertise the vacancy at Greggs like through their website www.greggs.co.uk this way the public can apply for their jobs all through the same process and it is easier to access and easier to use for the Greggs itself as they are in direct control of the recruitment process and seeing who is applying. Greggs could also advertise through the Job centre, this is government a based programme which means it is free to use, it can also be used nationally or locally this means that Greggs have can choose to have a very large recruitment pool if they wanted. They could advertise through a Recruitment Agency, it does cost however they have specialist staff to find the best person for the job which means Greggs can be very specific over who they choose to recruit, They could also advertise in a newspaper, locally or nationally, this will give the job vacancy plenty of candidates as it will be advertised to a big audience. A job advert should contain: the name of the position that is vacant, this is to show people exactly what they may apply for, it should also contain basic information about the job role for example a team member will be required to serve customers and prepare food, If the person looking to apply cannot fulfil those tasks they will not apply and Greggs won't have to waste time looking at their application, The advert will also have the location and address of the vacancy, it will also contain the wage or salary information it will also tell the candidate whether any bonuses can be earned and the…

Tesco identifies vacancy in different ways firstly, if someone quits their job they would immediately know that person has left and needs to be replaced. If there is more demand online they would know that they need fewer checkouts and need more personal shoppers. If Tesco have an expansion they would know there is more vacancies because more shifts need to be covered. There a quite a few jobs which people do at Tesco. the lower level jobs are going to have a more simple description whereas the higher levers are going to be more complex and it is likely that they will change over time but the lower levels probably won't. tesco goes with this by rating the jobs in levels, level 1 are the frontline jobs working directly with customers. Various in-store tasks, such as filling shelves with stock. Requires the ability to work accurately and with enthusiasm and to interact well with others. Then it goes up to a higher level. Work level 2 is leading a team of employees who deal directly with customers. Requires the ability to manage resources, to set targets, to manage and motivate others. Work level 3 is running an operating unit. Requires management skills, including planning, target setting and reporting. Work level 4 are the people who are supporting operating units and recommending strategic change. Requires good knowledge of the business, the skills to analyse information and to make decisions, and the ability to lead others. For work level 5 people are responsible for the performance of Tesco as a whole. Requires the ability to lead and direct others, and to make major decisions. The highest level is 6 which are for people who are creating the purpose, values and goals for Tesco plc. Responsibility for Tesco’s performance. Requires a good overview of retailing, and the ability to build a vision for the future and lead the whole organisation. The job description is useful for the candidates because it says what they will have to do in their job. It also helps…

Recruitment and Selection supports an organisations strategy by ensuring that the best high- quality people are attracted and retained.
