Business Development in Oman

Oman and its people continue to progress along the path of political, social and economic development, through the ever changing demands of the 21st century. The Sultanate of Oman has embarked on a development experiment over the few preceding years which show its ability to establish the cornerstones of economic and social transformation and to put in place the design for a proper framework of a modern state through IT, Business and Communication. The twenty third of July 1970, the date of accession to the rule of the country by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Sultan of Oman, is of prime significance in Oman's history. The Government of the Sultanate of Oman has played an active role in providing the country's infrastructure and in the provision of basic services in meeting the requirements of a sustainable development program in all parts of the Sultanate of Oman, at achieving financial prosperity, social development of the Omani citizen and modernization of the country.1

In early 1970's, the sultanate of Oman, gave important concern to information technology. After 25 years, Sultanate increased its concern in Information Technology by launching a long development strategy plan which focuses on Information and Communication Technology and fundamental establishment of the knowledge economy in order to increase Oman Economy Productivity which will improve citizen’s livelihood. Oman is now upgrading its information technology infrastructure. The changing face in Sultanate of Oman's IT resources is designed to stimulate economic progress and the progress of the entire population. Internet is widely available for the people of Oman. The country's business community is becoming increasingly aware of the value of electronic commerce.
