EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report aims to explore some dynamics of working in international teams especially with regards to team building and development, culture differences and its effects on international teams and culture shock. Models from Geerte Hofstede, David Kantor and Bruce Tuckman are discussed with Business Students from the University of Bedfordshire form the case study. The students were grouped into international teams using the Belbin role model. This paper shows how the theories explored are expressed in real life within the student teams. This report will show that indeed the theories explored actually apply for a vast majority of the population. 1.0INTRODUCTION

Team work is of great importance to the efficient and productive running of any organization. Tasks and objectives are achieved quicker, and with well-balanced teams these tasks are often better performed. This report covers working in international teams which is a bit more complex due to cultural and language barriers between members of an international team. A multinational corporation might have regional offices spread around the world or in some key locations where such a corporation deems it necessary to have a presence. For each of these offices located in a foreign country, there will be workers from within and without that particular country. This is typical of an international work scenario, where an individual from say, Thailand may be paired with someone from Germany. These two individuals have inevitably formed a team and they will be required to complete certain tasks by working together. The differences in the cultures, perceptions etc. of these two individuals could make or break the partnership. In this report, concepts and models are discussed with theories in practice. The material covered in this report include: Tuckman's four stage model for team building.

Collective and Individualistic cultures within International teams. Culture Shock and effects on International teams.
Balance in International teams - Kantor's four player model. The importance of developing functional and efficient international teams cannot be overemphasised. The information included in this report provides more insight into the dynamics of an international team.

2.0METHODOLOGY
Multicultural teams were formed from amongst students of a business degree in the University of Bedfordshire. The Belbin test was administered and relevant Belbin roles calculated and assigned accordingly the roles were: CO - Coordinator

CF – Completer-Finisher
ME – Monitor Evaluator
PL – Plant
RI – Resource Investigator
IMP – Implementer
TW – Team Worker
SH – Shaper
SP - Specialist
The groups were formed in such a way that repetition of nationalities was avoided where possible. That ensured an even multinational mix in every team. These teams were given a task that requires collaboration with deadlines and particular requirements. This serves as an excellent platform to observe and explore some of the theories in team building and working across cultures.
