Section 1 – Understand why change happens in a business environment
1. Explain why change happens in a business environment. You should include at least three reasons in your answer.
Changes within the business can happen proactively for example. The business may decide they want to expand in order to give them dominance in the market. The business may also be pressured by customers into upgrading or improving to stay in line with the needs of the customer. New legislation may force a business to change the way they operate. Legislation such as health and safety may force the business into updating its policies and procedures as the existing ones could become ineligible and out dated. Social factors may mean the customer wants to implement changes to a product. This could incur changes to the business in the way they produce and deliver products. If there was a downturn in the economy and the demand for the businesses products was drastically reduced, changes would have to be implemented to the business to incur the loss of revenue. Although the initial cost was high the overall impact was positive for the business. Employees that left to pursue other careers were not replaced because the new system made the operation more efficient. It is now saving the business money on wages, uniforms and personal protective equipment. The system also allows the operator to check employee performances and pick rates. Eliminating the cost of time and motion companies the business would need to utilize in order to determine the efficiency of its staff. The products we sell as a business are continuously changing due to the customer demand. If we were to sell the same product at the same price and offer the same service to customers they would more than likely get bored and look to our other competitors. The competitors would also use the lack of variation to promote offers and new products all to the detriment of our business.
2. When a business is going through change:
Describe the different types of support that people may need.
It can often encourage employees to respond positively when they can actively participate during changes within the business. It is not always possible, but making people aware of the changes by divulging as much information as appropriate, and offering them solutions to the questions they have may help resolve issues that are concerning them. It can...
