Another story that was read to the class was My Mouth is a Volcano, a story about a student learning how to respect others by not interrupting them in various situations. For the last week of intervention, the action researcher will read Teamwork Isn’t my Thing, and I Don’t Like to Share (2012), which was a story on learning that working with others is part of life, and it is about accepting people who are different. Another story that the researcher will have to read was Ricky Sticky Fingers (2012), which talked about why someone should not steal and how stealing shows a lack of respect. The last book read to the class is entitled “Cliques just don’t make Cents,” (2012) which is a story that focuses on the harmful effects of indirect …show more content…
Implications It is important to note that while the action research project was successful in lowering bullying occurrences and made students aware of the negative effects of bullying occurrences, only six students were evaluated and used in this action research project. The action researcher does not know whether the intervention would have been successful with a larger group of students. Furthermore, whole school interventions were considered to be popular as suggested by theorists like Erling Roland and Dan Olweus, and this action research project was only used at the classroom level. The action researcher would have liked to cooperate with other teachers and parents to implement a whole school intervention to see whether bullying occurrences would decrease among the older grades. The action researcher found that character education was successful in improving classroom environment, and would like to implement a similar intervention with older students to see whether it would improve empathy and peer on peer

It can include verbal harassment, physical assault or coercion and may be directed repeatedly towards particular victims, perhaps on grounds of race, religion, gender, sexuality, or ability. People hear the word class bully and the majority think of kids fist fighting in the schoolyard, or the mean kid taking lunch money from those they can push around, but this abusive behavior is far more severe than the fist fighting in the schoolyard, or the lunch money being taken from a classmate. This type of behavior has become more aggressive and dangerous than it was twenty years ago. We as adults need to change the perception that bullying at school is a part of life and those victims just need to toughen up. This behavior starts at home; therefore, it must be stopped at home.…

The issue of bullying is a problem that has been addressed more frequently in recent years. This issue wasn’t talked about more often due to the fact that that bullying was either not known about or not pertinent enough to attract constant attention from the public. Witted and Dupper state that, “High-level forms of violence such as assault and murder usually receive most media attention, but lower-level forms of violence such as bullying has only in recent years started to be addressed by researchers, parents and guardians and authority figures.” (p. 167) It is no mystery that students have been bullied in schools for years. However it was always seen as an act of initiation or simply passed off as “growing pains,” and the acts involved in these bullying incidents were not consisting of enough severity to warrant much attention. Usually the public became aware and involved in the subject only when the act of bullying led to an escalation of events that culminated in tragedy. It is only recently, in the 1990’s, that the public has identified bullying and violence in schools as a real threat. This subject has sparked interest in today’s society since it has spiraled…

Bullying in America used to be a rite of passage for kids of all ages, something that everyone went through, and survived, coming out none the worse in the end. I remember going through it. It wasn't easy, and I had to endure quite a bit of it because of what I looked like, even as a seemingly regular kid. But I survived, nonetheless, and came out better for it, more empathetic, and more sensitive to the needs of those around me who may not have been able to find their voice. After all, it took me about 30 years to find my voice on the subject. But now, I've found it, and I'm '[sounding] my 'barbaric yawp' from the rooftops of public schools around the country!…

We chose to do our final project and paper on bullying and its effect on students and their education. Bullying is a huge problem that presses our nation and is sometimes an issue that people try to avoid dealing with. We chose this topic because bullying is a concern that almost every student faces at some time throughout his or her schooling. Bullying not only happens to students in schools, but it is also a problem that some people face on a day to day basis whether it is at work, home, in a public setting, or at school. Another reason we chose to look into this topic is because some students, or even adults, do not realize that their actions are in fact, bullying. We wanted to take a chance to help inform people on a very dark problem.…

Children and youth who are bullied are more to be depressed, lonely, and anxious; have low self-esteem, be absent from school, feel unwell, and think about suicide. Law enforcement is trying to take a stand against bullying. It is so important that law enforcement has a role in bullying prevention because studies show that bullying as a child can lead to more serious consequences. In one study, boys who were identified as bullies in middle and high school were four times as likely as non-bullies to have three or more…

Firstly, an unknown questionnaire can be distributed to students and parents to gather information on many aspects of bullying. The questionnaires can give us information about where bullying is taking place and how students are reacting to it. We may note how interested students are in participating in meetings to help reduce bullying. We are also to see how the students and parents view bullying. From this information, we can decide on preventive measures that will be supported by students and parents.…

Bullying is when someone or group of people with more power repeatedly and intentionally causes hurt or harm to another person or group of people who feel helpless to respond. Bullying can continue over time, is often hidden from adults and will probably continue if no action is taken.
