Evil has existed in the world since time began. While it is inherent in everyone, some find enjoyment in its effects while others simply cannot find the means to break free from it. In Joyce Carol Oates, “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” evil reveals itself as Arnold Friend, a character consumed by wicked thoughts and desires. Arnold pursues a young girl and convinces her through slick conversation and frightening insinuations that there is no other option than to surrender to him, thus sealing her death. In “A Good Man is Hard to Find,” by Flannery O’Connor, the character the Misfit, an escaped convict, happens upon a family that has just wrecked their car. Because he needs items they have in their vehicle and because one of the family members recognizes him, he sees no alternative other than to kill them. Both of these characters exemplify evil, but in two distinctly different ways.…

he Viking Investments simulation presented a reality of many negotiations about money owed: It is beneficial for both sides to come to an agreement and avoid any legal situations. In this case, Pat (Pevsner) and Sandy (myself and Bierbryer) had a contractual agreement for materials and services rendered, however through miscommunication an upgrade was performed on the materials without Pat's personal approval. In order for this negotiation to be successful, Pat and I had to get past the petty arguments of who "screwed" up and who is legally responsible for the events leading up to this negotiation. If we continued debating the merits of one another’s positions, we would have ended up in court, I would have declared bankrupt and Pat would have ended up receiving a much lower percentage of the owed amount.…

In this quote, Chief Bromden says, “I been silent so long it’s going to roar out of me like floodwaters and you think the guy telling this is ranting and raving my God; you think this is too horrible to have really happened, this is too awful to be the truth! But, please. It’s still hard for me to have a clear mind thinking on it. But it’s the truth even if it didn’t happen.”(Act 1 32) Chief Bromden, a long-term patient in Nurse Ratcheds psychiatric ward, narrates the events of the novel. The novel begins as he awakes to a typical day on the ward, feeling paranoid about the nighttime activities of the wards three black aides. We are given this brainteaser from chief Bromden. The reader has already gotten a glimpse of Bromden’s paranoia, from the novels opening lines, as well as a sense that he is not seeing things from an everyday perspective. For example, Bromden describes Nurse Ratched transforming into a huge machine, and he has to be sedated when the aides try to shave him and he starts screaming, “Air Raid”. In this story, he claims himself not only the narrator, but the author. He has an important story to tell, even though it’s going to be hard for him. The last line of this quote is Bromden’s request that the reader have an open mind. His hallucinations imply that the audience shouldn’t believe everything he says in the novel. In my opinion, I believe that Bromden regains sanity, but he still witnesses many events while he is hallucinating.…

Individual experience programs can be daunting and intimidating to write if you do not have the proper experience in developing and appropriate curriculum for children with special needs. However, personal experiences form individuals that have created them in the past are very helpful in helping individuals create their own IEP. Michele Kamen’s article was written as a useful means to give perspective to prospective and current teacher’s information with regards to developing their own IEPs. The article is compromised primarily of past experiences from preservice teachers who wrote IEPs in their own undergraduate course and the challenges that they faced from their own inexperience’s. The student’s personal experiences enhance the readers understanding of the challenges in writing IEPs and techniques to simplify the process.…

Until now I never really thought much upon how Special Education was formed or carried out. I have had dealing with the Special Education department with my step son so I was already aware of how things went and the procedures of how help was gotten while attending school. I did find it very interesting that it all started with Brown v. Board of Education, a colored girl wanting to attend a white school. While I knew that public schools were free to attend and were open to everyone even the disabled/handicapped I just assumed that the school could turn the disabled away if they were not set for someone of that nature; I was not aware that this was not an option. I also just thought every school took it upon themselves during the planning phase to make sure their facilities would be accessible to all I did not know this was a state mandate. The differences between the Individual with Disabilities Education Act IDEA and the No Child Left Behind NCLB were astonishing to me as I have had ill thoughts all this time toward the bill as I am realizing they are were so misdirected. I do however still believe the teachers use the bill for their advantage to allow students to move forward in the school system when they are clearly not ready. While I am sure that the teachers are up to date with the standards set forth by the state it makes me question if they have had any refresher courses or if they have lost their will to push all students and help them achieve greatness. I am glad that the state upped the standards for teachers to be considered highly qualified and that every teacher has to conform to this standard and not some the ones teaching the Special Education classes.…

Education is a significant factor in life and is the foundation of intelligence and intellectual development that helps to guide and shape the futures of all students. There are many students with various disabilities and disorders who have displayed delays and hardships within their education which require a unique approach and special teaching strategies. Emotional and behavioral disorders students are a special cluster of students that need such accommodation and modification approaches. These students’ are opposed to changes, display emotional instability, and challenging behaviors. Consequently, as soon as a student with EBD is put in a general education classroom, the student may perhaps have difficulties and challenges with learning thus triggering instability in the student resulting in disruptive behavior and this threating for the teacher as well as peers.…

Just the word “adolescence” raises all sorts of feelings and images for most people because of the unpredictable time it represents. This stage is called Identity vs. Role Confusion; and for me it was a period of time that was defined by confusion within my mind and body. It was a journey to find out who I really was in this world. In trying to develop my identity, or lack of identity, I would either choose loyalties and promises or I would steer clear of them. I made these choices because I was confused about what I truly believed in. Being able to separate what I personally wanted and needed proved to be extremely tough since I was constantly concerned about how I appeared to other people. To this day, some part of me still deals with this internal battle. But I think that is normal, to a certain extent.…

As a student I have a few strengths. One of my major strengths is my ability to work in a group efficiently, I tend to participate in my group discussions and provide the group with valid points. Coming to the point of resources I got very strong backup from my parents, friends and my teachers. Another one of my strength is that I am a good listener, I listen to everyone’s idea in a group and come up with a final and most suitable idea. The last but not the least strength that I got is my patience and I am never going to leave that in my life.…
