Buddhism Informative Speech
Hello, I am Bodhisattva Joanna. For those of you who aren’t aware of what being a Bodhisattva entails, it refers to “a being that compassionately refrains from entering nirvana in order to save others and is worshipped as a deity in Buddhism.” (“Bodhisattva.”). In other words, I help others to reach the enlightened state; people would otherwise have trouble finding peace within themselves throughout the hardships of life on their own. In the Buddhist world, these hardships are referred to as suffering. The best way to end suffering is to first find the root of what is causing it. Craving and ignorance are the two main obstacles one will cross through suffering in order to make it to the state of enlightenment and nirvana. First, clinging and attachment are what craving refers to. Attaching …show more content…
Each of these things brings you to ultimate relaxation and helps you find your inner peace. “Meditation is a means of transforming the mind. Buddhist meditation practices are techniques that encourage and develop concentration, clarity, emotional positivity, and a calm seeing of the true nature of things.” (“What is Meditation?”). One simply stops activity of the mind in deep relaxation to effectively connect to the inner self. This is important because connecting with one’s inner self and realizing the true meanings of life are all part of reaching nirvana and enlightenment. Yoga is also another important aspect of relaxation. It is “a series of postures and breathing exercises practiced to achieve control of the body and mind, tranquility, etc.”(“Yoga.”). Once the body and mind are controlled, you can then, again, connect with your inner self. For some, yoga works better than meditating. Some can’t stop their mind from running a million miles an hour in meditation, so in yoga, the series of movements along with methods of breathing tends to soothe the mind

Attention- getter: What would you do if somebody came into this classroom and pointed a gun at you as if they were going to kill you for no reason? First thing that would come to mind is, “Am I really going to die right now” and “Why is a person on campus with a gun trying to kill people?” Sad part is, an event like this has happened many times in the past. For instance, the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting as well as the Colorado movie theatre shooting that all took place within the past year[example]. These mass shootings have brought up the issue of controlling who is able to purchase guns and if it is safe and necessary to roam around in public armed with a weapon.…

It was the Saturday before our topic choice was due, for professor Lee’s class. I was stressing, I could not figure out what to talk about. I literally google searched informative speech topics, but I did not find anything I really wanted to talk about. So I went to work like any normal Saturday. I was bagging groceries like usual, and there is a little boy in my way, so I politely say excuse me and the little boy stares at me with a blank expression. Next thing I know, the little boy runs and hugs my co-worker Darryl, who is bagging next to me. Darryl’s reaction was priceless. He was like “oh my gosh ahhh” and I tell him to chill, because I do not want him to scare the boy. So this happens, and the mother tells me “oh sorry he can not help it, he has autism.” At that moment, it was like God had slapped me in the face with a topic, that is when I decided on my topic of Autism in children, how it is difficult living with autism.…
