I am writing to express my interest in the Master of Education in Counselling cohort. In particular I would like to be considered for the course based route taking place in Mulgrave.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Education Degree from Acadia University in May 2004. In May 2002 I graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree; major in Canadian History and minor in English Literature. I have been employed with the Strait Regional School Board for the past four years.
My long term goals have always including training in counselling. I would love to have the opportunity to assist students in coping with various life situations. I always strive to assist the students in my class as best as I can but unfortunately I do not always have the opportunity to sit one-on-one or in small groups to talk with the students. Furthermore I would like the opportunity to show them strategies for dealing with situations that arise in their daily lives. As a member of the School Planning Team at school I have realized how much we can do to help our students. I would like the opportunity to take a more active role in this at the school level.
I work very well in a team environment and have learned how to combine the efforts and advice of administration, colleagues, and parents in order to create the best possible learning environment for my students. As a teacher, I enjoy taking the time to communicate with my students ensuring that there is mutual respect, patience, and clear communication. I have a very outgoing and friendly personality and love interacting with the students both inside and outside of the classroom. Being a member of the Guidance Cohort will give me the opportunity to gain knowledge of new subject areas, enabling me to further assist, teach and guide my students on a daily basis.
