Aims of the unit:
The aim of this unit is to give learners an understanding of individual and group behaviour in organisations and to examine current theories and their application in managing behaviour in the workplace.
On successful completion of this unit a learner will:
1 Understand the relationship between organisational structure and culture 2 Understand different approaches to management and leadership 3 Understand ways of using motivational theories in organisations 4 Understand mechanisms for developing effective teamwork in organisations Students are expected to write an essay covering the points listed under each of the learning outcomes. To achieve a pass in this unit, you must successfully address all of the assessment criteria listed (P1-P12). We expect all students to achieve their potentials and would encourage you to address all pass criteria, merit and distinction descriptors. For certain tasks students are encouraged to use real life examples and/or the scenario provided below. There is not set format for this essay. However, like all business essay you should have an introduction and a conclusion.
Part A - Essay
The students are expected to write an essay which should have an introduction, main body and conclusion. In writing the essay, certain tasks require the students to apply the theories in business situations. To make it easier for the students, scenario has been provided.

Assume you are working as a trainee manager on the BT’s Fast Track Leadership Programme, a unique scheme for high flyers who can make an immediate impact on our business and become part of our top management team in the future. After 2 months, the Human resource manager asks you to prepare an essay covering the following:
