Bsti to Get Certificate from Nabcb
India, which exports over 15 percent of Bangladesh’s total imports, will formally hand over accreditation certificate to Bangladesh today.
National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB), a constituent of Quality Council of India, granted the accreditation to Bangla-desh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) for its product certification.

BSTI director general AK Fazlul Ahad will receive the certificate from NABCB Chief Executive Officer B Venkataraman at BSTI’s head office in the city.
Talking to BSS yesterday, Ahad said Bangladesh last year got accreditation from National Accre-ditation Board for Calibration and Testing Laboratories (NABL) for lab testing certificates on quality of products.
He said BSTI received two major certificates from India, which will surely pave the way for facilitating Bangladesh’s exports to Indian markets.
Not only entrepreneurs in the industry sector would benefit from the accreditations, he said, it would also help increase international acceptability of Bangladeshi goods, giving a big boost to its export trade.
With this accreditation, BSTI will be able to claim recognition of its certification by Bangladesh’s trading partners, which in turn would help bring down costs for its exporters and increase their competitiveness in the international market.
Bangladesh imported Indian goods worth $4,570 million in fiscal 2010-11, while exported goods worth $512 million. Bangladesh’s export to India is also gradually improving and reached half a billion dollars in 2010-11 from $358 million in 2007-08 and $289 million in 2006-07.

Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI), a state-owned organization, today decided to install three metrology laboratories on zone basis to ensure accurate measures and test of different types of weighing devices.

The laboratories would be set up in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet to ensure accurate weights of metre bars, tank lorries, storage tanks and petrol pumps.

Foreign Trade Statistics (FTS), one of the core publications of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), is being published annually since 1973-74. It is The 23rd issue which contains information about exports and imports of 2008-09. It should be mentionable here that it presents disaggregated data to the possible extent on foreign trade following Harmonised Commodity Description and Coding System (HS code). The data furnished in this report have been collected from National Board of Revenue (NBR). Although BBS used to collect some export and import documents from various customs stations to ensure complete coverage of foreign trade but for the present issue, the only data source is NBR which brings all the data generated in various customs stations under their documentation. This edition has got two parts: Volume-I having five tables with export data and Volume-II containing four tables with import data. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the Director General and his fellow colleagues of BBS for bringing out this report. I also appreciate the relentless efforts of the concerned officers and staff of Foreign Trade Section of National Accounting Wing, BBS for collection and compilation of the data provided in this report. Any comments and suggestions from the users and other stakeholders for further improvement of the publication would be highly appreciated.…
