Habitat for Humanity
The local organization chosen is Habitat for Humanity, which assists low income or poverty stricken families to repair or build a home. The organization was founded and established by Mr. and Mrs. Millard Fuller in1976. For many years Habitat for Humanity has assisted those families who could not otherwise obtain homeownership through standardized means to have a home of their own. This paper will discuss the vision and mission statement of Habitat for Humanity as well as the organizational governance, key stakeholders and how the organization collaborates with the community, its partnerships and Marketing. Vision and Mission
It is estimated that over 46 million individuals are living in poverty in the United States (Thomas Reuters Corporation, 2013). With the rising costs of living and the inability of minimum wage to increase to better meet those costs many families have a difficult time maintaining adequate housing. The vision of Habitat for Humanity is to create a world where everyone can afford adequate housing. Adequate housing can provide the consistency and stability some children and families do not currently have. Adequate housing can also provide safety and potentially increase the health of some families.
While the vision is to provide adequate housing for all, the mission is to help eliminate poverty. The mission of Habitat for Humanity includes providing affordable housing for families in an effort to assist them in meeting their basic needs. Habitat for Humanity realizes that the basic need for security can build a foundation to eliminate health concerns and malnurishment. The organization is commonly viewed as the worldwide advocates for adequate housing. Organizational Governance
