Brussel Sprouts Research Paper
Paragraph of the Week #2
A kind of food i think is absolutely repulsive is Brussel Sprouts. They are the most nastiest things on earth. Every time I even hear the word brussel sprouts I want to puke. The smell is even worse than the food itself, Actually they are equally horrible and distasteful. Ever since I had first tried them (when i was 8 years old.) I thought that they were gross. If someone offered me 1 million dollars to eat one i wouldn't. Brussel sprouts to me are poison and every time I am offered I will decline.

In the novel The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver one of the main characters named Estevan says “We believe that if something terrible happens to someone, they must have done something to deserve it.” The author of the novel wrote it the complete opposite of what Estevan says, meaning bad things happen to good people and good thing happen to bad people. That it doesn't matter if you're good or bad, bad things still happen to good people and vice versa. Esteven is right, that we as Americans believe that bad people are the ones who get punished, but we are wrong because good people get punished too.…

Part B: A world filled with falsely represented genetically modified food. That very thought may not have ever occurred to me before reading Michael Pollan’s “The Potato” and without the proper knowledge on the topic one may simply use “not so bad” as the perfect dismissive answer. Personally, consuming food hardly ever carried with it thoughts…

Barbara Kingsolver feels that a 'contract' lies between the author and the reader. This is correct. A novel must entertain the reader before a novel teaches the reader... If not, the reader would have no interest in finishing the story. Barbara Kingsolver did not live up to her contract. The Bean Trees is a down-right uninteresting novel and has no relation to any normal person.…

Alternaria leaf spot is caused by the fungus Alternaria. The fungus produces dark, multicelled spores on host tissue only when there is substantial moisture, usually during summer rains. The spores are easily carried in wind and splashing water and infect only the leaves. Brown necrotic spots appear on the leaves wherever spores germinate and infect leaf tissue (photo 1). Spots are small at first then may enlarge and coalesce to form circular lesions with visible concentric rings (photo 2).…

In the past 3 million years, the levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide have been at their highest ever. With the more relatively recent beginning of the Industrial Age, the amount of clean, breathable air that humanity depends upon for survival, has, as a response to the Era, decreased. The increase in carbon emissions and the increasing dependence upon fossil-fuels for energy has led to a global race for the creation of a carbon-neutral, renewable energy source. Scientists with the U.S. Department of Energy have created this new source of energy from a project known as “Artificial Leaf”. The project, “Artificial Leaf”, is similar to normal green plants in that it carries out a form of photosynthesis through a chemical reaction involving sunlight and the molecules found in water, hydrogen and oxygen. Peidong Yang, a chemist working on the initial project, describes the Leaf as an “artificial photosynthetic system composed of two semiconductor light absorbers, an artificial layer for charge transport, and spatially separated co-catalysts” that “very much resemble an artificial forest”.…

Introduction: The purpose of the experiment was to establish whether the concentration of Schultz fertilizer that was added to the radish seeds effects the speed of growth during the six-week time frame of the study. The major variables with this study are proficient communications among the team, the seeds, soil, water concentration, fertilizer, light exposure, temperature of the room, consistency of following watering (watering the plant same time every day) and seed depth. All of these variables can affect the germination process in some sense but seed depth is the greatest, on the back of the seed packet it states the proper depth to plant the seed so it may break the surface and continue growing, without this there is no study.…

As early as I can remember, my house growing up was always free of bell peppers. My mother is allergic to them; even the smell makes her sick to her stomach. I always wondered if I was allergic to them as well, but never took any chances as a child and didn’t eat them either. Even to this day when dining out with my parents my mother always asks “are there bell peppers in this” her face would always have that crinkled up nose, that look of disgust on her face when she says it, as would anyone who has a food allergy especially to a common food like bell peppers. From this experience I learned not to like bell peppers either, as a young a child develops that sense of acceptance he or she want to be just like them, my sister is exactly the same way about bell peppers. This experience was learned primarily without intention by classical conditioning.…

Being a child, I didn’t know the importance of borscht; I just knew it was something that I had to eat. My mother always told me that I have to eat soup before eating 'normal' food. The saying my mother told me years has stuck with me today. Most of the memories I can recall of eating borscht are not pleasant. I believe my worst memory is when I was about ten years old. I was sitting slumped in my chair allowing my dull hair to sit in front of my face. By having my vision covered, I was unable to see the revolting borsht. The smell lingered around the kitchen, and the ceiling fan help to spread this smell around the entire house. I was the only and youngest child in my family to now like this popular dish. As I was silent my family discussed…
