Bronx Child Abuse Case Summary
On Tuesday April 25, 2017, Bronx Child Abuse Squad was notified through an IRT of a (six) week old child with serious injuries, not likely who was being medically evaluated at Montefiore Hospital. Investigator’s responded and interviewed medical staff. Doctors indicated the complainant had two skull fractures, two broken ribs and possible medical condition. MRI was conducted showing no injuries to the child’s brain, no subdural hematoma and no sub arachnoid hemorrhaging. Ophthalmologist examined the child and did not observe retinal hemorrhaging or petechial hemorrhaging. On April 25 2017, investigators extensively interviewed both the child’s biological mother Skylyn Garcia DOB 9/30/1997, and child’s biological father Rashed Hardial DOB 3/16/1995 who both denied observing or inflicting abuse to the c/v Angel Hardiel. The parents described one prior incident when mother fell asleep after feeding the c/v. The parents woke up and observed that the child accidentally fell from the bed on to the floor causing a bruise. At the time of the fall the C/V was only three weeks old. The Montefiore medical staff concluded that the child’s injuries were not inconsistent with the parent’s story.

Linda Cahill. The doctor indicated that a skeletal survey and other additional tests were performed, and she provided an updated a status on the child’s injuries, she stated that the child sustained two Skull fractures, Six Rib fractures, pneumomediastinum, chin abrasion, and bruising on eye lids. After the consultation with doctor Cahill investigators re interviewed the mother Skylyn Garcia who continued to deny observing or inflicting abuse on the C/V and evoked her right to silence. Law enforcement has interviewed him. DHS spoke to mom as well as Law Enforcement.
