Bromden POV The fog was at its worst today. Sometime between the Shock Stop and the showers, I remember fogging up, and fading out. After the fog had cleared, I found myself in the dayroom. I tried to remember whether I was brought to Seclusion or the shaving room. I concluded that I was put into Seclusion, but that I did not have breakfast. As I attempted to recall what happened this morning, I felt a sudden jerk in the gears. Then he came in. He was unlike any of the admissions here. He came in, refusing to shower. He states that he willingly came to the Combine to find new blood for his gambling. His grin, wall to wall, surrounded the Combine, and his laugh was an actual laugh, never before heard on the Inside. Either the Big Nurse, or the Black Boys did anything. The redheaded man wore a devilish grin, a dirty hat, and raggedy old work farm clothes. Later on, the group therapy session began. The doctor squirmed in his chair. The redhead, McMurphy looks puzzled again, and sits down and straddles his chair. Harding hasn’t noticed McMurphy at all, even though his is sitting right in front of him. Only after McMurphy comments that the meetings were a ‘pecking party’ does he notice him. McMurphy continues to harass Harding, and I want to say something, but yet again, I cannot blow my cover. He’s going to get us all in trouble. What is the Big Nurse going to do to us? The Big Nurse is able to set the time in the Ward. She can slow it down, and we all will just do our chores all day. She can speed it up. The one thing that she can’t control is the fog. Time doesn’t mean anything; you’re just lost in the fog. The fog wasn’t on full blast today; not since McMurphy was hear. His singing in the latrine wakes everyone, and reminds me of my father, as he stood up against the government. Since McMurphy has gotten hear, the fog has lessened. The Big Nurse isn’t at her strongest anymore. I

That was another week went by at the Brookville General Hospital. As usual, I started my shift by listening to the morning report and then heading to my assign resident room. I started with a complete physical assessment of my assignment to my assigned patient. I was assigned to two patients, but, my other patient refused my care and other nurses as well. There was nothing I could have done for her other than monitoring her, especially since she was aggressive and hit whenever approached her. Despite this, I now have an experience of dealing with something like that. Moreover, I was helping another patient in the same room Since my assigned patient refused my care. I got the chance to check one of the patient’s blood sugar using Accuchek.I…

Let’s face it, a nurse would not have a career if it were not for patients, this does not mean I wish for people to get sick, instead it means that all of my efforts during my shift are geared towards the patient. By doing so I set fourth to do the very best I can for them and their families as well as boosting their spirits by offering for my time patients and a little bit of humor, if called for. I am the voice for my patients, I have the means and the ability to help my patients feel better if only for a short period of time, I…

I was on my third day of residential care placement; the staff had just started to take turns for their morning tea break so I took the time to catch up on my case study patient’s medical history in the nurses’ station. Within a few minutes the Manager of the rest home ran in to gather the blood pressure machine and bandages. She informed another student nurse and myself to “take these to Max’s (pseudonym) room NOW, while I call an ambulance”.…

I was given the scenario where I had to assit a patient who had injured their hands and where unable to feed themselves. As I approached the patient she was sitting upright in a chair with a hospital gowan on. I began by introducing myself as the nurse letting my patient know I was going to be feeding her today. According to Sully & Dallas (2005) our first encounter with a patient can be crucial for the therapeutic relationship to continue therefore introducing yourself is imperative thus I continued to communicate with the patient in a frenidly manner. I placed the food tray on the table along side the patient. I proceeded to clean my hands with the alcohol rub before I sat down in front of the patient. I asked the patient would she prefere to start with the yougart or the biscuits. The patient decided to start with the yougart.…

The profession of nursing has changed and grown immensely throughout the past century. Nurses’ responsibilities have increased; today, they not only care for the sick, but they perform advanced technical skills and are required to know more about medications, technology, educating patients on their conditions, and how to monitor changes in patient status. Increased responsibility coupled with collaboration of multiple disciplines, increased demands, and interruptions throughout the day, tends to place nurses in a position in which they will often forego their breaks or work later than scheduled in order to accomplish all of these tasks.…

His smile shined like the sun beaming down upon all of us. He gave me the rundown about this place. At the thought of myself being in his position, being the same age as him, I began to feel embarrassed too. I thought that I could not possibly be a professional individual if I let my embarrassment and sympathy get in the way of my nursing care.…
