Brief Summary: Ponyboy Vs The System
Ponyboy v.s the system

Did you know that most of the children in foster care suffer from mental illness. I think that children should be able to stay with their parents, because it’s healthier for them to be with their families. Children who grow up in foster care do not always receive the education they need to support themselves efficiently. When children in foster care age out at the age of eighteen many find it difficult to support themselves. Ponyboy is better of with Darry, because he is a good guardian, and it should be Ponyboy's choice to stay with Darry or go to the foster care system’. Ponyboy should stay with Darry, because he looks out for him. ‘If you get in a jam holler and I will get you out”. This quote supports my perspective, because Darry cares for Ponyboy and that's why he’s so hard on him. Another way this supports my perspective is that Darry doesn't like it when Ponyboy smokes. “Ponyboy Curtis put out that cigarette you know there’s no smoking in bed”. This show’s my perspective, because Darry saw

“If you smoke more than a pack today i’ll skin you”. Darry says that to not seem so mean’ because he says it in a playful way and Ponyboy sees that. Ponyboy knows he’s being funny and he replies with “if you smoke more than a pack today i’ll skin you alive”. “Ponyboy I was so scared i wasn't sure you were even alive. This shows that Darry was worried about Ponyboy and missed him. Darry and Ponyboy have a love hate relationship, because sometimes they're mad at each other and sometimes they're nice to each other.
Ponyboy is better off with Darry, because Darry is a good guardian, and because some kids are better off with their parents. Ponyboy should stay with Darry because they love each other. Darry is a good guardian because he keeps him safe. Even though Ponyboy and Darry struggle to keep a good relationship still love each other and should stay

In the beginning of the story Dally and Ponyboy didn't get along the best. But throughout the story they became closer. Dally’s death happened right after he stole from the store. The cops showed up and circled around Dally under a street light. Dally soon pulled out a gun and acted like it was loaded but it really wasn't. How would the cops know that? They did not know that. After the cops told Dally to put the gun down multiple times and Dally still wouldn't do it so they shot him. Ponyboy took this really hard because him and Dally had gotten very close. Also dally had helped Ponyboy and Johnny out whenever they needed something. So I think that Ponyboy was really mad because he didn't stop it from happening. Also now Ponyboy is dealing with two deaths of his very good friends. “I knew he would be dead, because Dally Winston wanted to be dead and he always got what he wanted” said Ponyboy (Hinton…

The Curtis boys eat chocolate cake every morning, page 105 says this “The first one up has to make breakfast, I started to find the eggs we need for our chocolate cake we eat every morning for breakfast, along with our chocolate milk.” This is some proof that Ponyboy should go to the system. He would be better off with the system because, the cake has a lot of sugar and it’s he’s eating a block of sugar everyday. So if Ponyboy stays with Darry he could get bad stomach problems involving diabetes and stomach and health issues. So the opponents that are on Darry’s side might argue that “ He’s a kid let him eat what he wants.” Then back to the system side, “ What’s good with letting him eat what he wants, when it could lead him to health issues, body problems, and possibly dying. So now that the system has a step up, Ponyboy will be better off with the system because they will make sure he gets a good breakfast EVERY MORNING!…

Noboday should ever holler at my brother. I exploded. “You dont yell at him!” I shouted. Darry wheeled around and slapped me so hard that it knocked me against the door.” Throughout the book Ponyboy talks about how much Darry hates him, and how he likes Sodapop better. He talks about how Darry gets mad when Ponyboy gets B’s on his report card but didnt get upset when Sodapop dropped out of school. At the end of the book though, Ponyboy realizes that Darry loves him so much that he is often to hard on him. “I let go of Soda and sood there for a minute. Darry didnt like me… he had driven me away that night… he had hit me… Darry hollered at me all the time… he didnt give a hang about me.. From reading the book it was pretty clear that Ponyboy had a rough family life. It is a huge part of Ponyboys growth realizing his family was the most important thing to him but hadn’t realized this until it was too late. Ever since his parents died he has been under the care of Darry. Ponyboy always felt like Darry never loved him because he could never please him. "He's as hard as a rock and about as human...he thinks I'm a pain in the neck. He likes Soda--everybody likes Soda--but he can't stand me." (Hinton 42) . If Ponyboy were to bring home B’s, he demanded A’s and if he got A’s he wanted his marks to stay that way. He felt like he was the one always hollered at band Darry doesn’t love him like he does Soda. Ponyboy had to realize that…

    Darry And Soda

Darry and Soda had different points of view on how to interact with their brother Ponyboy. On page 2, the books states, “Soda’s never hollering at me all the time the way Darry is, or treating me as if I am six instead of fourteen.” From this quote, the reader is told that Darry treats Ponyboy differently than Soda. It can be inferred that Darry is more strict with Ponyboy while Soda may not be as strict. On the other hand, “Soda’s always happy-go-lucky and grinning, while Darry’s hard and firm and rarely grins at all.” (The Outsiders, pg. 2) This quote shows another example of how Soda is different from Darry because it shows Soda being more joyful and relaxed, but Darry is more stern and not warm. Furthermore, the way both brothers treat Ponyboy demonstrates Hinton’s theme that family is there to support each other at all times because both brothers clearly care about Pony but show it in different…
