Brief Summary Of Odysseus In Homer's Odyssey
With permission from Zeus, Athena travels to Ithaca to speak with Telemachus. Athena predicts that Odysseus is still alive and that he will soon return back to Ithaca. Athena advises Telemachus that he should call together the suitors, and announce their banishment from his father's estate. Athena then tells him that he must make a journey to Pylos and Sparta to ask for any news of his father. After the conversation with Athena, he encounters Penelope in the suitors quarters, all upset about a song that the court bard is singing. Like Homer was with the Iliad the bard sings of all the sufferings that were experienced by the Greeks on their return from Troy, and his song makes the divested Penelope more miserable than she had already been.
