Mansa Musa was a well known man. He was ruler of Mali, born into the position, and did his job well. Musa kept Mali well organized and rich- within the kingdom’s boundaries was a gold mine stuffed with valuables, which were guarded carefully. Musa may have gotten a bit caught up with with his riches, though- on his many travels, Mansa Musa gave gold nuggets to the elders of every village, along with any people of importance. Usually by the end of his trip, Musa would be out of money, so he would ask to borrow some from fellow kings. They trusted him and gave him money, and once home, Mansa payed them back far more than they had given. Everyone loved Mansa Musa. He established religious freedom, encouraged education, and even built his own
