Airbus is a well-known commercial and military aircraft manufacturer throughout the world. Airbus prides itself on quality and safety. According to Airbus, “Airbus’ mission is to meet the needs of airlines and operators by producing the most modern and comprehensive aircraft family on the market, complemented by the highest standard of product support.” (Airbus). To be able to compete with their number one competitor, Boeing, Airbus’ mission is to create the best and safest aircraft. Throughout the years, Airbus has followed their vision by manufacturing state of the art modern jetliners that use the company’s groundbreaking innovation of digital fly-by-wire technology. With the application of this technology to modern aircrafts, Airbus can enhance safety, performance, and the comfort of its passengers (Airbus).

Airbus employs a functional structure. Within a functional structure, individuals with similar occupational specialties are put together in formal groups. Airbus has a CEO with formal groups of occupational specialties under him: Chief Human Resources Officer EADS & Airbus, CFO EADS & Airbus, Executive Vice President Procurement EADS & Airbus, Executive Vice President Programmes, Executive Vice President Engineering, and Head of Airbus Military (Airbus).

Airbus represents a prospector, which focuses on developing new products or services and seeks out new markets rather than waiting for things to happen/come to them. In 2007, Airbus introduced the world largest wide-body jetliner- the Airbus A380. The A380 can fly longer ranges, carries more than 500 passengers, uses less fuel, reduces operational costs across the board, delivers cabin comfort, and uses state of the art technology to deliver the highest standard of quality and safety.
