When Woolf first notices the moth, she reflects on how the moth enjoys it’s repetitive every day schedule. Watching the moth flutter from corner to corner, she could tell that it “seemed to be content with life.” Although his days were simple and repetitious, he obviously did not mind. Because the moth was so pure and small, anything could harm it. Little did the moth know that his time was running out, the combat imagery used shows how death can take life from anyone and anything; event the purest of creatures.…
In the Time of the Butterflies is an award-winning book written by Julia Alvaraz, a famous Latina writer. This is the story of the four Mirabal sisters during the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo in the Dominican Republic. The sisters make a political commitment to overthrow the Trujillo regime. Throughout the book you can see the family being prosecuted, humiliated, tortured and imprisoned, all for going against the government in secrecy. When they are caught they are all put in danger. This story is set in both the present (1994) and the past (1943) by the perspective of Dedé, the only surviving Mirabal sister. The book starts off in “present” day 1994. Dedé is asked to speak about the tragic tale…
In the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Guy Montag lives in a reversed society, where firemen create fires instead of putting them out. The individuals in this society are captivated by gigantic wall sized televisions they address as their “families” and seashell radios that are plugged in their ears to avoid having to listen to people. Montag is merely another one of these clones that prefer not to think, until an unexpected meeting with a rebellious young…

As we all know, Ray Bradbury, Author of Fahrenheit 451, made many predictions as to what this day and age would be like. He was right in many cases including speed, entertainment, and the mindlessness of people. He predicted that nobody would speak more than a couple of words at a time to a certain person. That makes the people seem mindless because they don't talk or ask questions. Ray also predicted that people would drive by places so fast that the y don't even know what they passed. That has not quite happened in out tome yet, but I believe it is coming. One of the final things that Bradbury talks about in his book is entertainment, slowly but surely, people are starting to stay indoors and do such activities so they don't have to go outside.…
During my research about –The Butterfly Effect- I found some interesting facts about it, and so many thing are much related to it, and even there are some life laws that applies to it, it’s very impressive how many people have their own thought and ideas and how they interpret it.…
“That butterfly was the last one. Butterflies don’t live in here, In the ghetto”. Celeste Raspanti’s play I Never Saw Another Butterfly is based on a collection of poetry, drawings, and art made by Jewish children while living in Jewish concentration camps. Based on a true story, the play is centered around Raja Englanderova and her life living in Terezin during the Holocaust. Life within the walls of Terezin was not the easiest, but shimmers of hope seem to shine through those cracked and cold walls.…
A few paragraphs before, both parents had been nearly executed of what seemed like real life lions. Not soon after, they would be killed towards the end of the story, because of technology. Next let's look at the story "A Sound of Thunder", this story proves that technology may get so advanced we could change the history and the future. "Crushing certain plants could add up infinitesimally. A little error here would multiply in sixty million years, all out of proportion." (The Sound of Thunder) and "We don't want to change the future. We don't belong here in the Past" (The Sound of Thunder) Both these quotes have a vivid warning of what could possibly happen in the future. The quote: "We don't belong here in the Past" could potentially be the first warning, saying like it means, we don't belong there! It's very obvious that if did come down to such a scenario where we could travel back in time, that nothing can be touched which becomes a very fair warning from Mr.Bradbury. Surely this should be taken into consideration as a very clear and vivid warning to us that technology could ruin the future and past…
In A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury, the reader realizes that small things can make a huge difference. A Sound of Thunder is about a company that sends hunting safaris into the past to hunt rare and extinct animals. This specific instance details the corporation sending a time safari to hunt a T-Rex. The safari members are specifically told to refrain from touching the ground while they are in the past so that the future is maintained in its current state. Upon arrival one member of the safari kills a butterfly, resulting in time's alteration. The author writes, “You first annihilate one, then a dozen, then a thousand, a million, a billion possible mice!” (3). To further enforce the effect small things can have on the future, Bradbury…
¨Courage is acting in faith despite your feelings of fear.¨ (Joel Balin) Fear is strong and controlling emotion. Although, a person who has faith and a good well being can conquer the vigorous feeling of fear. The Mirabel sisters from The Time of Butterflies by Julia Alvarez displayed courage in the own way throughout the book. Patria displayed courage not just by her involvement in the movement, but how she would do anything to keep her family safe. Courage is demonstrated through Patria when she agreed to join the movement to better the life of her children, also by her asking Pena to help her son get released from prison.…
Imagine living in a society where everyone is not human. Ray Bradbury has created a society in which these people are not living. People show that they are obsessed with technology. Their social abilities have been destroyed. Memory loss is common upon many people.Ray Bradbury sends a message saying if technology/media is overused, a society can be ruined.…
The Butterfly Effect’s Impact on Pop Culture “The butterfly effect” is an ongoing metaphor that captures the idea of a small change making a substantial difference. This idea was originated by the author Ray Bradbury in his short story, “The Sound of Thunder”. In this narrative Bradbury writes about a company, Time Safari Inc., invite members of the community to travel back in time to kill dinosaurs. On the first trip into the past, they are very careful to not do anything that may affect the future.…
Every now and then life gives us a challenge, and often that challenge can define our life and who are. The memoir wrote by Jean-Dominique Bauby describes such a challenge. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly challenges the minds of readers to imagine a world of pure terror where ones whole existence changes due to being trapped in their own body, left to live life through one’s own memories and imagination.…
The short story “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury, takes place on the planet Venus-where it is always raining and the sun only comes out every seven years. Most of the children that live there cannot remember the sun, although Margot can. She had recently moved to Venus from Earth and remembers every detail about it, like the beauty of it and the many wonders it brings. However, Margot’s classmates are resentful of her considering she can remember something that they can only dream about. The lesson that is hinted at throughout the story is that when someone is envious or jealous of another they can do and say many things they are not proud of.…
Many consider Kendrick Lamar to be above beyond the talent of an average rapper; to others he is the bane of “quality” music. These two polarizing views can be attributed to a several different reasons; a generational gap, a shift in public thought, and the political atmosphere. Putting aside generational bias, while one might relate with Kendrick Lamar for his overarching message regarding race inequality, others might call it politically charged propaganda. Not so long ago the Beatles were considered the bane of quality music- described as “the devil’s music” by many before they were famous. Nonetheless, like all music, Kendrick’s unique composition of lyrics and melody can…
