Bowie Knife Essay
Since 1827 the bowie knife has been one of the most popular knifes in the United States of America. It can sustain life or take it away. It was made by Rezin Bowie and was given to James Bowie for protection by Rezin. It was made popular when James used it in the Sandbar fight on September 19th 1827. Since then its been used for hand to hand combat and as a hunting and survival tool for many people in the US. An example is the Mexican War, the ranger in Texas used it their back up weapon in the war.

It was located on the Giles Island on September 19, 1827. It was a gun and knife fight that occurred as a conclusion to a duel. James bowie and Major Norris Wrigh attended the fight but they both had friends. Bowie suffered two bullet wounds and many stab wounds. He was rushed to help and was expected to die in the morning. He survived, Major Norris Wrigh did not. There is some large differences between the modern day bowie knife and James Bowies knife. For instance, the first bowie knife resembled a butchers knife or a Spanish hunting knife and had no hand guard. Todays knife has a hand guard and sharp point along with a more distinct curve on the blade. It is no longer used for combat as much as bushcraft and wilderness survival because it was replaced with the bayonet. There can be more changes to the knife depending on the kind you get, for instance some bowie knifes have a cerated edge on them allowing to cut down small trees and branches faster.
