Bottle Water Vs Tap Water

My findings in the assumptions around bottle water and tap water resulted in a wide range of how the water supply is regulated. There are two different agencies that regulate the water supply in the United States. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates bottled water. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates tap water. Both agencies are highly regulated agencies and have different standards of how the water is delivered to the consumer.

The FDA manufacturing process is an anti-bacterial filtration system that eliminates contaminants in the water before it is put into the plastic bottle. The higher standardized requirements are to ensure a safe product to a satisfied customer. Some say that the water in a plastic bottle has contaminants going into the water from the plastic bottle it is contained in.
Each water utility company is responsible for the level of contaminants in the water and reporting any health affects the water will have on the population it services. The EPA also has safety standards in place that require chlorine and fluoride to be added to the tap water supply.

In conclusion, both the agencies are highly regulated agencies with strict requirements around water. When you look at the statement “Bottled water is safer than most tap water in the United States”, I would assume that bottle water is safe to drink vs. tap water because it must go through a more rigorous process of purification before going to the purchasing
