The physical remains of humanly made artifacts form the bulk of the archaeological record. The artifacts that are found by archaeologists may not represent the range of objects actually used because certain materials preserve better than others. For this reason, stone tools and ceramics dominate the archaeological record. Objects made of fabric, cord, skin, and other organic materials no doubt date back to the very earliest archaeological periods but they rarely survive. The introduction of pottery in a culture seems to coincide with the adoption of a sedentary way of life.…

“The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien is a short story in which he talks about his experiences as a soldier in Vietnam. The idea it gives you of why the story is named like that is quite literal. O’Brien talks mainly about what they carried and brought home after the war like their ‘post traumatic stress disorder’, all the memories of guilt and fear, and some other physical objects like matches, morphines, rifles, and candy. For example, when Tim O’Brien goes on telling two stories, “The Man I Killed” and “Ambush”he talks about the guilt he now carries after killing a man. He goes on imagining the life that this victim had form childhood to how his life would’ve been if O’Brien would’t have killed him with a grenade.…

This article is presented as a thorough history of the Knights of Labor in Ontario, Canada's most industrialized province, in the late nineteenth century. It examines the rise and fall of the Knights, an organization which embodied a late nineteenth century working class vision of an alternative to the developing industrial capitalist society. Surveying the massive organizational successes of the knights of Labor in Ontario, it argues that for a brief moment in the mid 1880s the Knights built a movement culture of resistance to industrial capitalist society that held out the notion of a different form of social organization. One built on co-operation, democracy and producers power. As such, Kealey and Palmer claim the movement influenced the working class culture of that time like no other.…

Presently, youths and adolescent teens have become progressively enticed to join gangs. An individual joining a gang or a non-criminal group consists of different pushes and pulls that work in tandem to represent an attraction or dominating force. In this case, for example, “gang membership can increase status among peers, especially girls (for boys)” while also allowing the opportunity to be with them (Why Do Youth Join Gangs?). Gangs also provide a sense of excitement through illicit drug selling and the ability to earn money. By committing these illicit acts, youths perceive themselves making a rational choice in their decision to join a gang. It is assumed candidates for gangs are already delinquent or have a high probability for delinquency…

The Outlaw Motorcycle Clubs, or OMC, is a group of people with similar sets of ideas that apply their own sets of laws. The OMC have been around since the late 19th century and they do not consider themselves a gang or a criminal organization, instead they have a structure of an exclusive club because they gather individuals as a way to socialize and do similar activities together. A TV program called America Justice, talks about the gangs negatively. They just show the bad parts of being in gang. In an interview they had with a former gang member, and all they seem to ask him was questions on the illegal aspects of the gang. The person doing the interview asked him how his gang got the younger kids to sell the drugs for them and he said, 'all we need to provide was a free initiation to a gang, and we would get the younger kids to do our dirty work for us and make money at the same time. ' The person doing the interview asked him if he or any one in the gang ever killed someone and he did not reply to the question making you think that he did or someone else did but he does not want to rat on himself or other gang members. There are a variety of gangs in the city of Toronto including the bloods (whose color is red), crips (whose color is blue), Punjabi mafia, ms-13, etc. These gangs can be usually found where the government provides public housing to the community. Places like Rexdale, Jane and Finch, Scarborough, Malvern, Region Park are the hosts to many of Toronto deadliest gangs, coincidentally these areas are the areas where most of the immigrants in Toronto can be found in. So what really is a gang? A gang is a group of recurrently individuals or close friends with identifiable leadership and a internal organization, identifying with or claiming control over territory in a community, and engaging either individually or collectively in violent or other forms of illegal behavior. Some criminal gang members are “jumped in” or have to prove their loyalty by committing acts such as theft violence or in some cases murder. A member of a gang is called a gangster and the gang he represents is called a set. In this essay we will look at the fact that gang violence in Toronto, and the irony of gangs from two different areas in Toronto who “rep” the same gang, for example crips have developed rivalries. We will discover why the youth in Toronto join gangs. Also go in depth in the rivalry between the prominent gangs in Toronto, the Jamestown crips vs. Mount olive crips and Driftwood crips, and Malvern crew vs. the Scarborough Galloway boys.…

In this romance, there is a battle between reason and love. Both try to thwart the paths of the other. When love is taking control, there is always a sense of reason that prevents Lancelot from doing what he wants, and when reason has the better of him, love makes him go in a different direction. Reason is the logical explanation behind each action taken or decision made by Lancelot. Love is the attraction that Lancelot feels for Gweneviere and it has a way of pushing aside reason, when he tries to make a judgment. These two elements are almost the devil and angel inside of Lancelot. Neither one can be described as good or bad, but can be considered opposites of each other. Also, most times, love is a stronger trait in Lancelot than the process of thought and reason.…
