A. Primary Characters
Margaret “Meg” March- Meg is 16 years old and the eldest. She is very pretty, with plump and fair skin. She has large eyes, soft brown hair and was quite vain.
Josephine “Jo” March- Fifteen-year-old Jo is very tall, thin and brown. She has a decided mouth, a comical nose, and sharp, gray eyes and was very boyish.
Elizabeth “Beth” March– Beth is a bright-eyed thirteen-year-old girl. She is very shy; she has a timid voice and is very close to Jo.
Amy March- Amy is 12 years old and she is the youngest. Amy is spoiled and she wanted to act mature for her age. She has blue eyes and curly yellow hair.
Theodore “Laurie” Laurence- The grandson of James Laurence, Laurie has curly black hair, brown skin, big black eyes. Laurie is very polite and jolly.
Margaret “Marmee” March– She is the March sisters’ mother.
B. Secondary Characters
Robert “Father” March- Mr. March is the March sisters’ father.
Aunt Josephine March- The March’s aunt. She is a grouchy and rich widow.
Mr. James Laurence- Laurie’s grandfather.
John Brooke- John Brooke is Laurie’s tutor who falls in love with Meg.
Professor Friedrich "Fritz" Bhaer- He is a poor German professor who came from Berlin. He was almost forty, stout and was kind to everyone.
III. Setting
A small New England town

IV. Summary
The story starts at Christmas time. The March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy decided to use their money to buy a gift for Marmee. Marmee came home and read a letter from their father who was away at war. On Christmas, the March family gave their breakfast to their poor neighbors, the Hummels.
