Book Report: 172 Hours On The Moon
“It’s the opportunity of a lifetime, but little do the teenagers know that something sinister is waiting for them on the desolate surface of the moon.” (book jacket Harstad). Three teenagers have won the opportunity to go to the moon for a week, and this is how it happened. Mia, from Norway, is upset because her parents signed her up for the 2019 Moon Trip “raffle” so to speak, but, the thing is, she didn’t want to go. Midori, from Japan, is excited for this trip because she can be free and is able to explore different places other than Japan. Antoine, from France, just broke up with his cheating girlfriend and never wants to see her again. In the science-fiction book 172 Hours on the Moon by Johan Harstad, the theme is that trying new things could have a positive impact on one’s life. Mia, Midori, and Antoine are all trying something new, and this experience could have a positive impact on their life, but unfortunately, some of them don't think so. Mia doesn’t want to leave. She wants to maintain the rhythm of her everyday life in Norway. Her parents signed her up for the moon landing 2019 lottery, but Mia wasn’t happy about that. She soon found out that she won, which makes her even more upset. She responds to her mother (who gives her the news), “What part don’t …show more content…

Once Midori received the letter, she thought, “New York. New York. She knew exactly what this meant. (You just got your ticket out of here, Midori).” (68 Harstad). Midori’s attitude towards the fact that she gets to go to the moon shows that she is a very open person that likes to try new things. Overall, Midori is optimistic, which ties back to the main thesis, trying new things could be positive on one’s

That there were still people that loved her and didn’t want to see her go. In the sci-fi novel 172 Hours on the Moon by Johan Harstad, I thought the book was really good and entertaining throughout. The plot of this book was all over the place, because it was written in the perspective of three very different people. Each different perspective on the plot was extremely interesting for each of the characters, even though the main characters, Mia, Midori, and Antoine, lived in different countries. The climax was different and at a different point for each of them, and that is what made the book such a page turner. There were many twists and turns and things that you didn't expect to happen. The writing style of the author was amazing considering he was able to write in different perspectives of 3 different characters…
