1, 2, and 3 John

Overall Theme: John is urging all Christians to live close to god and love other people to get closer to God/Jesus.

John 1
-John explains that people must live close to god and live in the “light.” This is basically saying that if you put your sins in the light and confess them to god, he will forgive them.
• “If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his son, purifies us all from sin.” 1 John 1: 7
-John clarifies that god’s children should love others because it is what God/Jesus would do.
• “Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble.” 1 John 2: 10
-Love God and do not cherish the material things over God.
• “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the father is not in him.”1 John 2:15
-Follow the path and the commandments and do not follow the path of the devil/sin.
• “Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous. He who does what is sinful is of the devil.”1 John 3: 7-8
-Love and treat each other right to demonstrate that you love God and act as he wants you to.
• “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of god and knows god. Whoever does not love does not know god, because God is love.” 1 John 4: 7-9
-If one follows god and believes in Jesus he will give you eternal life. Eternal life is only found in the belief of Jesus.
• “He who has the son has life; he who does not have the son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5: 12

2 John
-Do not listen to deceivers of the faith (a.k.a antichrist)
• “Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist. Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for.” 2 John 1: 7-8
-Do not allow people who do not have faith in

This passage about how John the Baptist was the fore-runner for the Messiah. Jesus showed up coming from Galilee, walking towards the Jordan River, which was where John the Baptist had been baptizing other people. Jesus requested that John baptize him, but John didn’t think he was worthy of baptizing Jesus. He thought that Jesus should be baptizing him. Once John the Baptist baptized Jesus, the spirit of the Lord descended upon Jesus in the form of a dove, and said, “This is my beloved son. And whom I am well pleased.” This passage shows me that Jesus sees potential in all of our simply because he created us. It also leads me to think that he cares about us. He wants to ensure that we live right by…

All of the teachings of Jesus can be summed up in the one word "love." The love of Jesus Christ was perfect love, and he commanded his disciples to love one another as he loved them. Christians well know that they do not have this Christlike love in themselves, but when they remember how Christ loved them and died for them, they in turn will love others. The Spirit of Christ is the Spirit…

John 8:12 says, When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." If you believe in God, and follow what His plans are for you, He will only give you things to help you and make you prosperous, never things to harm you. John 14:6 says “ I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to my Father, except through me.” Basically, if you want to have eternal life there is no other way to do so unless you have faith in God, and believe His Word. If a man does not believe in God, and doesn’t follow in His ways, he makes up his own rules, his own ideas of how life should be lived and sets up his own failures. The main reason we were created was to fellowship with God, and worship Him. When man doesn’t have a relationship with God, he feels an emptiness and is dissatisfied. He can not be truly content with his life unless he has the Holy Spirit working in him. To be saved by God, you have to accept that God is who He says He is and accept Him as your savior, then you have to repent and confess your sins to God. God is very forgiving, and He says if you confess all your sins to Him he will forgive you. After you do all that, you are born again, and have started your relationship with God. In the book Praxis they say that “The new life God brings about is truly an amazing act of His graciousness and…

Love is the strongest feeling in the world, this feeling of extreme care and admiration is capable of making people look over all the bad and intolerable things of this world. Love is capable of making people do stuff without any control over their physical being. When one loves another, the feelings can become so strong that these two might feel like they are destined to be together forever and that nothing could ever break them apart. Love is a feeling that everyone feels inside at one point in their life, regardless of where they have come from or what has happened in their life. But of all the love in the world, none is greater than the love God has for the people of this Earth. After all, the bible states that “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son and that whosoever believeth in him shall not parish but have everlasting life”-John 3:16. In this being said, God loved the world so greatly that he believed that if he sent his son into the world to die for the people and the sins of this world, that his blood being shed might just save us all.…

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not loved, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not loved, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not loved, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it…
