Boo Radley Biography
A legitimate social neighborhood, always has a neighborhood legend. In To KIll A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the protagonist’s neighborhood is Maycomb County. The neighborhood is very social and everybody knows everybody. Maycomb County’s neighborhood legend is a malignant person named Boo Radley. Boo Radley’s real name is Arthur Radley and he is in his thirties. He lives with his family in their house. The Radley house is an slate-gray house that nobody dares to enter. The neighbors may have stretched the truth about Boo Radley. Based on rumors, the protagonist, Scout Finch had gotten from her brother
Jem Finch, Boo Radley is described to be a scary person. The rumors describe him as a man who’s six and a half feet tall, that drooled all

He also dines on raw squirrels and cats, which is unhealthy. Boo supposedly stabbed his dad in his thigh with scissors, when he was cutting some items from the newspaper to put in his scrapbook. Similarly, they say that he had bit off his mother’s finger before. There is also a rumor that he died and his family had stuffed him up their chimney. Despite all these rumors we only know a few real things about Boo Radley. So, far in the book only the adults have ever seen Boo Radley so the children have no idea how he looks like. So, they have to use their imagination and come up with an appearance. That explains why Boo Radley’s aspect is batty, since To Kill A Mockingbird is being narrated by a six or seven year old girl. We know that Boo Radley has been locked up in his house for 15 years. This occurred because fifteen years ago, Boo and this group of people that were considered to be a gang, resisted arrest from a policeman and locked him in an outhouse. They got arrested and the judge decided to send them to the state industrial school. Boo's Father, Mr. Radley told the judge if he released Boo, he would make sure he wouldn't get into any more trouble. The judge did and Mr.Radley thought that locking him in their house for the rest of his life was going to keep him out of trouble. Mr. Radley eventually died but Boo's brother, Nathan came and took his place. So far there has been no body of Boo Radley yet so we presume that Boo is still

As I am reading the first few chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird I predict the children will not meet Boo Radley. One reason I think the kids will not meet Boo is he is locked up in his home away from the living world. First off, the kids never see Boo but have heard many stories about him and his wicked ways. Jem believes he is chained to the bed laying there because his father does not want him to be seen. Boo is a legendary name in the small town of Maycomb but no one knows what has really…

Boo Radley is one of the most important characters in the story. “Hey Boo,” (Lee, 362). This is the first chapter where you actually meet Boo. He is standing in the corner of Jem’s room when Jem broke his elbow. Everybody thinks Boo is this really scary person. They call him Boo because he’s like a ghost. His real name is Arthur Radley. Jem described him as, “about six-and-a-half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that's why his hands were bloodstained—if you ate an animal raw, you could never wash the blood off. There was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten; his eyes popped, and he drooled most of the time." (Lee,chapter1) This shows what Scout and Jem thought of him. It was a not very good assumption. He turns out to be not so creepy in the way he looks and turned out to be a very nice person which scout didn’t really expect. They realized their perceptions was wrong because he gave them food, fixed Jem’s pants, and gave them dolls over time. She came to expect it as she matured and got…

He is also misrepresented by the town, they never see much of him because his father locked him away because he thought Boo brought shame and failure to the family, without ever seeing Boo the townspeople try to make assumptions about his appearance, they were usually really bad. Boo spends most of his time in the house during the day, but at night he goes around town. But besides all the negative things about him he has a nicer side, one night Jem and Scout we were walking to a costume party and Bob Ewell was following them and was up to no good. He planned to murder the finches in woods, but they started to run and Boo came out and saw them running and turned the knife back on Bob Ewell and killed him. Atticus had thought that Jem killed him in self defense but Sheriff Tate knows that Boo Radley did it, “I’m not a very good man, sir, but I am sheriff of Maycomb County. Lived in this town all my life an‘ I’m goin’ on forty-three years old. Know everything that’s happened here since before I was born. There’s a black boy dead for no reason, and the man responsible for it’s dead. Let the dead bury the dead this time, Mr. Finch. Let the dead bury the dead...I never heard tell that it’s against the law for a citizen to do his utmost to prevent a crime from being committed, which is exactly what he did, but maybe you’ll say it’s my duty to tell the town all about it and…

For a majority of the book Scout was told Boo Radley was a crazy, antisocial, outcast, through the rumors spread around Maycomb. Scout did not know anything else about Boo, so she did not think twice about it. One of the stories Scout heard was about how Boo Radley “drove the scissors into his parent’s leg, pulled them out, wiped them on his pants, and resumed his activities" (Lee 13). This story contributed to the idea that Boo was crazy. Everybody thought he was heartless and was willing to kill his own parents. Everyone in Maycomb had…

When the character of Arthur “Boo” Radley is introduced, both the reader and Scout, the narrator, don't know much about him. He’s seen as a “malevolent phantom” by Scout, and the only other information she has about him is derived from local rumors. Scout’s fear about Boo is only heightened when Dill and Jem begin to lose interest in their usual acting games. Their boredom leads to a new fascination with the mysterious entity known as Boo Radley. Jem tells Scout that Boo eats raw squirrels and cats, making her think that Boo is some sort of savage monster. When she hears Miss Stephanie talking about how she saw Boo peeking into her window one night, Scout becomes more weary of his presence in her neighborhood. She even regards him as dangerous…

Boo Radley is considered to be “weird” because he is different from the rest and therefore treated unfairly. People are trying to avoid him and his house because of fear. Scout and Jem would always run past the Radley house as fast as they could. Scout infers “A Negroes would not pass the Radley place at night.” (Lee 11). Just because a person is different from a group, people consider them to be dangerous since they are unpredictable. This is why people are already scared of Boo, but they never see the man. Also, rumors and gossip are things that feed prejudice in this town. Rumors are built off his mental disability and because of that, people think Boo is “crazy”. He is accused of small crimes like the death of azaleas after a cold snap. The townspeople said the frozen flowers are a result of Boo breathing on them. Apparently, he is also seen stabbing his father's leg with a pair of scissors, but Miss Maudie says it was not true. It is absurd to blame someone for every small crime possible of Maycomb. Nobody is certain if these stories are true or if even any of the Radley stories are. People know that Boo is different and assume that he is dangerous. Boo would not be able to do the crimes if he is always at home. The rumors would contradict each other. The real reason why Boo stays in his house is because he does…

In the beginning of the novel, Boo Radley is locked away from society at the hand of his parents; “The doors of the Radley house were closed on weekdays as well as Sundays, and Mr. Radley’s boy was not seen again for fifteen years.1” This unusual seclusion kept by the Radleys, Boo Radley in particular, allows them to live separate from the town’s cruelty and racism. Boo, especially, has never dealt with the towns injustice, seeing as he has been locked away as a prisoner in his own home since he was a young teenager. Due to this, Boo still holds on to his childhood innocence, even as a grown man. Given this, Boo is another “mockingbird” in the story as he remains innocent, and untouched by prejudice and hatred. The subplot revolving around the mystery of Boo Radley emerges again in the last chapters of the novel. As Boo kills Bob Ewell to save Jem and Scout, Scout remarks that taking Boo to court, or allowing people to know about Boo’s heroic action would, “Well, it’d be sort of like shootin‘ a mockingbird, wouldn’t it?1’” It can be seen here that pulling Boo into the town’s limelight, to recount the horrors of the attack, or his own life’s treacheries, would destroy Boo’s innocence. As a result of his imprisonment, be it in his own home, Boo has the mental capacity of a teenager; he is also lacking in social skills, having had little to no human connection,…
