Michael Gerard Bauer’s narrative is a story of the value of perception as characters are constantly being mis-judged. Like Mrs. Mossop, josephs ‘nosey’ neighbour, the ‘dangerous, sick man’ known as Tom Layton and The Running Man who is described as the ‘stuff from nightmares’.…

Participating in the previous three Olympic games, Usain Bolt from Jamaica holds the world record for the 100-meter dash. A normal human would struggle to complete his rigorous training, yet Bolt trains daily, spending “90 minutes in the gym every day” (Citation). He focuses on speed and agility, core strengthening, and weight training during those ninety minutes. Examples of his power-filled workout include reverse crunches, box hops, cable knee drives, medicine ball slams, barbell lunges, sled drag, and more. Bolt performs each action quickly and explosively. For speed training, he completes twenty block starts and steadily runs repeated 20, 30, and 100 meters for an hour, each sprint working on acceleration, deceleration, or top-end speed. (Citation). He will sprint wearing a weighted vest, and he varies his speed and length of rest to place him in the most developed athletic shape to win.…

That night, I once again woke up from my fitful sleep and decided to walk it off, but when I came downstairs, feeling the touch of the wooden handrail, and the pair of survivors on watch didn't wave back to me, or even blink. I exited the house, and the wind whistled as the world froze, and — suddenly there was a glimpse of someone darting through the streets. They were a cat - they moved lithely and disappeared from sight for a few seconds, then reappeared…

I should’ve known something was wrong when the dear fell into the road on my way to the top of the Roan. I was driving along the rough road up the Roan, when out of nowhere, what appeared to be a yearling doe fell from the top of the Plateau and started running at full speed down the mountain. I assumed the doe had gotten a late start and was trying to catch up with her herd, but it had a primal fear in its eyes that I thought was brought on by the unexpected sight of me in the truck. This was odd because deer aren't…

“Hey there! Are you alright?” the creature’s voice sounded feminine, and he could tell that she was getting closer as this time the voice was much louder. Fear gripped him as he thought back at all those stories his neighbourhood friends told him, bloodthirsty savage cats in the forest, who kill for fun and laugh at their prey as blood flows out of their life-sustaining arteries and heave for their last breaths and...maybe he was just thinking too much.…

I had tried to call out to warn her, but I was paralyzed, only able to watch as the woman screamed and was taken away. The dark figure had mounted on his horse and turned to me, its scarlet eyes fixated on mine, filled with something that could only be described as hate . NO!…
