Blue Mountain Humane Association Analysis
The Blue Mountain Humane Association is a nonprofit high-save animal shelter located in La Grande, Oregon. The Blue Mountain Humane Association provides a safe and humane environment for all animals until the facility can provide the animals with their forever home.
This animal shelter serves all of Union County and surrounding areas. The services of Blue Mountain Humane Association are needed because they advocate for animals and give them a second chance at a happy life. Because this animal shelter is a high-save facility, they do whatever it takes to save animals unless euthanasia is absolutely necessary as decided by a veterinarian. This facility does not discriminate against breeds that have a reputation for being difficult or violent. …show more content…
The Blue Mountain Humane Association also provides boarding services to pets whose owners will be out of town. The Blue Mountain Human Association encourages owners who can no longer provide care for their animals to bring them to the facility. They want to help as many animals as possible. This facility is a resource for those who already have pets as well as those looking to adopt a pet. If we did not have this facility, many animals would be mistreated, homeless, or killed.
The Blue Mountain Humane Association needs to be communicating with various audiences throughout the local communities to create a strong presence and to get people to utilize the services they provide. When the money is coming from limited sources it is difficult to spend money on maintaining the facility and other resources when all money is going directly to making sure the animals are well taken care of. If the facility could receive donations, then they can create a budget to spend the money on taking in more animals, facility improvements, marketing efforts, or whatever else is needed. Extra funding would add much more to the program as their funding would be more flexible and they would ultimately be able to help more animals. If they could communicate with an audience that is passionate about saving animals and has money to donate, then it would be a definite win-win situation for both the facility and the

    PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), the largest animal rights organization in the world, had a PETA investigator work for a puppy mill farm, Nielsen Farms, located in Kansas. While working there, the investigator noticed that the animals had little to no protection from harsh weather conditions, and major health problems like ear infections and abscessed feet from the wired cages were ignored or improperly treated.9 In the report, the investigator mentions that his coworker found a dead dog, and the dog was not removed from its cage for days. The investigator also mentions, “The trough that collects the waste from the cages gives off an incredibly rotten smell, since it is merely rinsed with cold water and there is a large buildup of encrusted hair and feces.” 9As these conditions were unsanitary and by no doubt required USDA intervention, the investigator notes that the USDA’s “visits [were] infrequent and usually announced ahead of time.”9 When the USDA investigator arrived on the scene, “the investigator glanced at the cages but did not examine the dogs” and the case was not reported.9 Devastated, the PETA investigator took matters into his own hands and had arranged for PETA officials to further investigate.
