Blood Red Monologue
Drowned with a fume of poppies
Every night begins the same at Blue Moon Strip Club. I peep through the shadowy curtain to see the same old crowd of perverted men drinking their lives away with cheap aged beer wishing that the night could become reality. “Crystal, you’re on in five “shouts Bill. ‘Okay, let me just finish up ‘I replied back.
I sit in front of a crystal clear mirror in the poorly lit dressing room filled with the fragrant scent of vanilla raspberry in the air. As I stare at the crisp image of myself in the mirror I feel as if my life is passing me by and the innocent girl that once existed is replaced with a scarred, fragile women who pays the bills by entertaining men. I preen my face by putting a fresh layer of blood red lipstick, a fine dark line of eyeliner and light touch of peach blush. I steadily walk to the cold and lifeless back stage and begin to hear the MC voice’s filled with excitement and life shouting to crowd. “Gentlemen, are you ready to have some sparkle brought into your life, well, here comes Crystal!!” As I walk

I end off on an erotic pole twirl and walk off the scintillating stage to the dressing room. As I enter the room containing the killed hopes of women, Bill says “Good performance but could you put more of yourself into it”. Bill’s comment seemed to go straight through me since my mind was occupied on the strange man. I make my way to the mirror to remove the mask which hides my true self. As I begin to wipe away the red lipstick I begin to see the broken girl within but ignore her cry for help. Rapidly I begin to pack my things and make my way to the bus stop. As I sit on the icy, cement bench a muscular figure begins to walk up, my extinct tells me to walk away but my heart tells me to remain. As the figure gets closer I realise it’s the strange man, His husky voice stating “This is a gift from Rico, he wants payment on

Frank's ethnography draws on her work as an exotic dancer in five strip clubs, as well as on interviews with over thirty regular customers--middle-class men in their late-twenties to mid-fifties. Reflecting on the customers' dual desires for intimacy and visibility, she explores their paradoxical longings for "authentic" interactions with the dancers, the ways these aspirations are expressed within the highly controlled and regulated strip clubs, and how they relate to beliefs and fantasies about social class and gender. She considers how regular visits to strip clubs are not necessarily antithetical to marriage or long-term heterosexual relationships, but are based on particular beliefs about marriage and monogamy that make these clubs desirable venues. Looking at the relative "classiness" of the clubs where she worked-ranging from the city's most prestigious clubs to some of its dive bars-she reveals how the clubs are differentiated by reputations, dress codes, cover charges, locations, and clientele, and describes how these distinctions become meaningful and erotic for the customers.…

It was a hot afternoon and i was setting by the river thinking when i saw my boy sam running towards me like his behind was on fire. His face looked frightened, so much like his father’s. He said that Mr. Finch and Cal just drove into our yard in those fancy automobiles that costs way too much. My heart started beating so fast but i still had hope. He could be here because they realized Tom was innocent and he was finally coming home to us. When i got to my home, I saw my children playing a game with their marbles. I saw Mr. Finch standing there with a look of sorrow on his face. He looked at me with regret. He didn't have to say anything because i just knew, I just knew he was gone. My knees gave out all of a sudden, I collapsed to the dirt. I wished that the ground would swallow me up. I was not strong for this, i'm still not. I held back my screams that will break out any minute. I have to put a straight face for my kids, i’m all they have now.…

My ears ring as the old school bus screeches to a halt. We hop off and a dry, winter gust smacks my face. Instantly, my stuffy nose runs. I grasp the cold metal handle of the school door, open it, and slam a piece of wood underneath to keep it ajar. After we become accustomed to the cold shock, Mrs. Cimenski, our director, orders us to haul the heavy wooden tables and a set of four lockers toward our designated area backstage. We struggle through multiple doors and long curtains until we reach our destination. The first aid kit mends our minor cuts and bruises created in the process. Gathering our senses, we collect the makeup and costumes and begin a brisk walk to the classroom assigned to us. The first performance is in an hour and a half,…

    • 2 Pages

I am Tybalt, a Capulet and cousin of Juliet. I am known as short-tempered, impulsive, and a vengeful person, I draw my sword anytime I can. However I am loyal beyond words and honour the family rivalry between the Capulets and the Montagues with great heart. I will never betray the Capulets. On the day of Capulets’ party Romeo showed up. I recognised Romeo through his disguise at the Capulets’ ball. I can’t remember that we invited him to our party. Why is Romeo here? What is his intention of showing up at my Uncle Capulet’s ball? He is a Montague and I loathe all the Montague because they are our enemy. He is not allowed to come to our party. I would have killed him or make him leave the ball immediately if not forbidden by my uncle. He stopped me because he didn’t want to make a scene at the party. I could have choose to disobey my uncle but if I do that he will be mad at me so I have no choice but listened to my uncle. However I won’t let him live so easily I will make his life miserable. I will take revenge on him next time I meet him. Therefore I have a plan, I will fight Romeo at the city centre but I will be banished if I start a fight with him. In that case I will provoke Romeo at the city centre of Verona so he will start a fight with me. When the prince found out that Romeo starts a fight with me he will banish Romeo from Verona forever instead of me. I sent a challenge letter to Romeo for a duel to the death and vowed to meet him later on. I didn’t know if Romeo will show up but I went off to look for him after the masked ball. Instead of finding Romeo I found his friends, Benvolio and Mercutio. After Romeo arrived, I confronted him to fight with me, but he refused. But his friend Mercutio winded me up after that so I started a fight with him. Romeo tries to stop us, but I stab Mercutio. I ran away after I stabbed Mercutio but I still have my sight set on killing…

The strip clubs in Williston, N.D., are the rowdiest that Tatiana, an exotic dancer who has performed in Las Vegas and New York, has ever seen. And then there are the prostitutes. Tatiana, who asked that her real name not be used, noticed them wandering though the crowd looking for customers on her first night in North Dakota.
