Biopure needs to determine the best course of action to launch two new products, Oxyglobin a blood substitute for the veterinary market and Hemopure a blood substitute for the human market. Oxyglobin has been approved for commercial use and is ready for launch while Hemopure is expected to be FDA approved within two years. Biopure needs to decide whether and when to launch Oxyglobin. If decided to launch, the ability to price Oxyglobin appropriately is critical to minimize the impact of prospective launch for Hemopure. We believe Oxyglobin should be launched immediately because…

How best to exploit the opportunity presented by Oxyglobin without jeopardizing the potential of Hemopure is a tough problem for Biopure’s executive. According to the financial analysis, it is suggested that Biopure begin to sell Oxyglobin at $150 per unit to emergency care practice at the Veterinary Blood Market and have its own distribution network. This will make a profit of $5 million at first year and $17 million thereafter. The steadfast income will consolidate Biopure’s financial structure and enhance the competiveness of Hemopure. The potential annual values are $794 & $135 million for Hemopure & Oxyglobin respectively. The human blood substitutes market would be monopoly if only Hemopure released, so the Oxyglobin influence…

In this lab experiment our group was given four different types of synthetic blood samples, along with three types of synthetic anti- A, B, and Rh, to help identify the ABO-Rh blood types. Its purpose of this experiment is to learn about the form and functions of the bloods components, as well as to examine and identify different blood types, as many already do so and apply it to real life events, whether its through forensics, crime scene investigations or at hospitals to help identify ones’ blood type.…

    Analyzing Blood

Analyzing blood is the worst part of the job to me. It is one the main reasons why I might not pursue this specific career in Criminal Justice. I can’t deal with blood because it affects me mentally. I can talk about it, but the sight may make me nauseous or I could faint, especially if it’s a large amount (pool stains). I could sit and watch the most gruesome horror movie and eat dinner while watching it. However, I do feel I may get over that hump like if I talk about it more and the repetitive experience through the job. I searched around the web and found a few interesting facts about blood splatter analysis. I also found a video explaining blood splatter and its relation to the murder case involving a hammer in Arizona. I will post the…

Over the years, blood transfusions have saved and taken many lives. As doctor’s have become more knowledgeable about the circulatory system and the blood that runs through it, the use of blood transfusions have steadily decreased. As a result, transfusion alternatives have steadily decreased. For a long time now, blood transfusions have contributed to transmission of disease, a weakened immune system, and increased recovery time. Blood transfusions have proven to be very effective in saving people’s lives who suffer from life threatening injuries or illnesses. Doctors and patients are exploring alternative treatments that use either no blood or small fractions of the patient's own blood.…

    Lab Report On Blood Typing

    • 1155 Words
    • 5 Pages

The purpose of this experiment was to identify four synthetic blood samples through a process called blood typing. According to Fredrick H. Martin, PhD., et.al, blood typing is a test that determines a person’s blood type by checking the blood for the presence or absence of specific glycoprotein called antigens found on the surface of the red blood cells. The two clinically relevant antigens are the A antigen and B antigen. The blood type is named based upon which antigen is present on the surface of its red blood cells. There are four blood types. Blood type A has A antigens; blood type B has B antigens; blood type AB has both A and B antigens and blood type O has neither A nor B antigens on the surface of the red blood cells. An additional…

Ans: It is exploitation of the poor to feed the pockets of Plasma International. A fair market would have allowed them to sell their blood at the same prices as in the US which is of a significant price increase and greatly improved their lives. This behaviour of Plasma International fits into the egoism model. The sale of the blood benefits one agent, Sol where he buys low and sells high. He knows that African nations are more backward and knows they will agree to the 15cents per…

Blood cannot be created by any means, it can only be collected from the Humans i.e. donors. Recruitment of safe donors and monitoring the standards is a challenging task. No Blood Bank, Hospital or Government can sustain health care without adequate blood. The major concern of Blood Bank is to maintain the Quality of Blood as well as to identify the Professional Donors. NACO (National AIDS Control Organization) and NABH (National Accreditation Board for hospitals and Healthcare Providers) provides standards to ensure the quality of Blood and identify the Professional Donors. But monitoring the standards and identifing the Professional donors manually is a challenging job. The software available in market is useful to cater the day to day functioning of Blood Bank but cannot enforce the standards. Bio Metric devices are also available to detect the professional donors but not available in an integrated form with application. Quality Checks are available but these checks are not conducted on routine basis and also not on all bags. To overcome these issues we designed and implemented standard enforcing mechanism in each process of Blood Bank Management System and also integrated Bio Metrics with Donor Registration Process to identify the Professional Donors. This not only covers the day to day working in blood Bank but also ensures implementation of the Blood Bank Standards.…
