Both Maroubra and Kogarah are suburbs of Sydney and are more than 10km far away from the CBD, Maroubra is a beach suburb in south east of the CBD while Kogarah is a residential suburb in south of CBD. There are some similarities and differences between these two places and this report will compare and contrast them in three aspects, they are The People, Housing and Services. The population of the two suburbs has significant differences in size and composition. Firstly, Maroubra’s population is much higher than Kogarah, while Maroubra has 26,500 civilians, Kogarah has just 10,900. Secondly, both suburbs have the majority of people are of Australia origin, however, other minor group in Maroubra differ greatly to Kogarah, a small number of people in Maroubra is Indonesia origin with 3% while some people in Kogarah is Greece origin with 4%. The Services in Maroubra and Kogarah are quite similar in transport, hospitals, retail and education facilities. Firstly, both two places have good services, such as transport and hospital, because they have many private clinics and bus services, it takes 50 minutes for moving to city. Although they are suburbs, they still have shopping center, small shops and cafes. They also have some public and private schools, however, while Kogarah has one college Maroubra does not have any college. Finally, there are differences and a similarity in housing between Maroubra and Kogarah. The median house price in Kogarah is much cheaper than in Maroubra, people just need to pay $650,000 to own a house in Kogarah instead of $1,050,000 in Maroubra. However, the median apartment price in Maroubra is not two much higher than in Kogarah, with $575,000 comparing to $420,000. There is an interesting similarity between two places, the apartment percentages are nearly the same, and they all have over 40% apartments in their areas.
