Block Schedule Research Paper
Many people have argued blocks and periods. Blocks are four classes a day and they are a little over an hour in each block. Periods are about seven classes each day and around 45 minutes to an hour a day everyday. Many people may not agree with me but the block schedule has been much easier for myself throughout my highschool years then the period schedules was when I was in middle school. The block scheduled should be used in all schools because it’s easier for students, it’s better for organization, and it could possibly be less stress for the teacher as well. Although many students love the period schedules because it’s so short, there’s many advantages of the block schedule that not many students look for such as it being easier for the students and the students might not realize that it is. It was always easier for me because it’s less work than having seven classes to have work for. With the period schedule, it might be a possibility that a student could have to do homework for every class that night and have to turn it in the next day. It’s already stressful for some students to keep up with four classes. 45 minutes doesn’t seem like it’s enough time to finish work or to learn new …show more content…
Most teachers give out textbooks for their class and carrying those around could be a struggle. It would be hard to keep all of the work organized for the classes and students would possibly need to buy more school supplies then they need. To be completely organized a student would need a folder, notebook or binder for each of their classes. For me, the block schedules are easier than the period schedules because I can carry my first two blocks of work then go to my locker before third block and get what I need for for my last two blocks. When students have a limited number of classes, it would be less time in the hallways which would be unlikely for students to disrupt

The traditional schedule for school is outdated because in the old days, it allowed for children to help harvest crops during the summer. Now, the long summer just enables kids to be lazy and easily forget what they learned at the end of the previous school year. If a year round school year were to be implemented, kids would not be able to be as lazy and breaks would not be so long as to let kids forget a whole bunch of their school curriculum.…

Many people believe that the best way for students to be taught nowadays is through year-round schooling. This idea would break off from the traditional way of having nine months of school and three months of summer. Instead, the school would have a certain number of days, which is then followed by a long break. This would last year round and there would be no big summer break. The length of the school portions and break portions would be determined by the school; some more common calendar setups include but are not limited to periods consisting of thirty days of school followed by fifteen days of break, sixty days of school with twenty days of break, or ninety days off school and thirty days of break. In larger schools, they could use the…

During block week I had the opportunity to learn more about The Gatehouse and be part of activities that I would have never had the chance to be part of on my regular working days. I met the founder of The Gatehouse and had an opportunity to practice Ba Duan Jin with him and all the other staff. Ba Duan Jin is thousand years old meditation, it is very close to The Gatehouse, every staff and volunteers know a lot of its moves and practice it regularly. I was shown few moves in the orientation but I was not comfortable with practicing it, my discomfort was visible when everyone was doing the Ba Duan Jin together. I think everyone noticed that I was struggling with few moves and was not comfortable with them, I was really touched when everyone…

The block schedule in high school was an improvement, but even then, it has never felt as if we have enough time to do justice to our academic courses. But a block month? Now that sounds like an idea I could get used to! I love the idea of focusing all my efforts on one subject at a time and believe that doing so would allow me to excel academically. As well, having a period to relax in between blocks and do what I love could make the difference between a good and an outstanding college experience. The chance to do Field Study and learn outside of the classroom during the block courses also provides countless opportunities for experiential learning. Whether it’s being surrounded by the landscapes I love or the freedom to learn in a manner that suits me best, Colorado College would provide the perfect place for the next four years of my…

Students often forget things, may they be books, papers, projects, you name it. With longer lunch periods the students would be able to go to their house and pick up any forgotten items. If a student forgets their history book, or maybe an English essay, they could run to their house really fast and pick it up and not have to worry about any late grades or missing assignments. Say a student does not have computer access at home, they would be able to go to the library at lunch and type their assignments, finish any computer work, print something, or do some research for a project.…

Backpacks should be allowed in classes Going back and forth to your locker can get really annoying just to get supplies. But, if students are able to take our backpacks to every class students would never have to worry about going to lockers until the end of the day. This issue is important because a student can get behind or not know what to do for needing to go to their locker, and they might even be late to class. Students taking their backpacks to classes can be easier on the students and teacher because teachers don't have to worry about writing so many passes, students can carry everything to the class and not go to their locker all the time, and there is a chance that students will not be late to their classes.…

    Classroom Management

During my classroom observation, I observed the classroom of Mrs. Shanesta Pettway. Mrs. Pettway is a 9th grade history teacher at Jeff Davis High School. She runs a very structured class with a well plan classroom management plan. Mrs. Pettway follows a strict schedule during the 50 minutes of class time that students follow such as 15 minute bell ringer at the beginning of class, 15 minutes of lecture and class participation, and 15 minutes of section review assessment questions. She utilizes the final five minutes for students to put away books and prepare for their next class. Her classroom management plan does not allow students much time to talk or interact with each other. Her transition from the bell ringer to the class lecture was very smooth and the students seem to be in routine with moving from one assignment to the next. I believe her daily schedule is a great method of classroom management because it helps her to keep the students on track.…

Many schools in the United States are beginning to change their school calendar so their students attend class all year round. The changes still allow the students time off in the summer, but they do not have the three months of break most students in America receive traditionally. Instead, they get a break of a couple weeks in the summer, and the remainder of the time is divided up and put into other breaks throughout the year. All schools in America should switch to a year-round calendar to accommodate the different and higher level of learning needed to be successful in our changing world and society. The traditional school system was designed many years ago when our country was an agricultural nation. Therefore, the school calendar was developed having a long break in the summer so students could assist their family with cultivating crops and other aspects of farm life. The traditional school calendar was not a calendar for higher learning, and should be extended to meet the needs of modern day students. There are many explanations as to why the traditional school calendar should be changed.…
