Many people have lightened their hair using highlighting. Highlighting the hair is probably the most commonly used coloring method for enhancing the hair without completely changing the natural hair color. Hair lightening refers to changing a person's hair color, using lightener or bleach to color hair strands. Highlights can be done in natural and unnatural colors. Most highlights are off the scalp lighteners which can not touch the scalp because it can severely irritate it, an example is powder lighteners. Three basic highlighting techniques are foil, cap, and balayage.

To begin, the first techniques is foil lightning. This is the process of using foils to separate strands of hair which will be lightened, from the strands of hair that will stay its natural color. The tool used for foil highlighting is a pin tail comb. The hair would be divided into 5 sections and using the pin tail comb you can make subsections by weaving or slicing the hair. Weaving is when you go over and under a thin section of hair. Slicing is when you go straight through the hair with a pin tail comb. (Make sure the section is thin for both weaving and slicing). Three major hair lightening methods are foil, cap and balayage. Foil highlighting uses foils and a slicing and/or weaving technique using a pintail comb. As Rachel would prefer to not use bleach in the service but would like to keep her hair at a level 8 then I would recommend using a tint application instead of another bleaching service that will cause further breakage and be less harsh on her hair. To match the colour of her ends I have chosen to use Kolosten Perfect 8/07 (light blonde natural brown). Using a tint on the natural regrowth will lift her natural level and will colour over her artificial colour on her ends.…

To start with, I will provide you with some knowledge about the structure of hair. Hair is made up of two basic parts: The follicle, which is the actively growing root or base of a hair containing DNA and living cells, and the shaft, which is a strand of hair compose of a protein called keratin. The shaft is made up of the medulla (the central core of a hair fiber), the cortex (the region of a hair located outside of the medulla containing granules of pigment), and the cuticle (the tough outer covering of a hair composed of overlapping scales). The medulla is different from person to person. Some are continuous, some are fragmented, some aren’t there at all, and some are even doubled. There are also different types of cuticles, including imbricate, which is what humans have, coronal, which is what rodents have, and spinous, which is what animals such as cats have. With a macroscopic view of hair you can see differences in color, length, and where it is curly, wavy, or straight, but that only scratches the surface of what you can see on hair. With a microscopic view you can see the medullary index (the ratio of diameter of the medulla to the diameter of the hair), cuticle type, cortex color, diameter of the hair, and much more.…

Luster's S-curl texturizes your hair nicely. If you have very nappy curls, S-curl will make your curls really defined, while at the same time making it appear softer. But don't leave it on for too long, over-processing the hair will really dry it out, and will loosen your curls too much, making the hair seem more straight than curly. I advise to leave it in for 10 minutes or less, this will soften your curls enough, while still letting your hair appear as if in it's natural…

Were you ever curious how hairstyling ,beauty, and hair coloring ever came about? Who, back in the day would have ever come up with the idea of changing ones hair style, let alone color of the hair? Animal sinew of hide were used to tie hair back, or as a adornment. Your probably thinking the same thing I did. "yuck!" but that's all they had to use in those days long ago.…
