Black Hawk Middle School Reflection
Reflection
The community I chose to help was Black Hawk Middle School. I chose this to help the middle school. I did this by helping the students learn how to get ready for high school. My partner I, Shawn, went to Black Hawk on the 29th 30th and the 31st and we talk to the students about high school. My expectation was to go to Black Hawk and talk to the kids about what I did wrong when I was in 8th grade and how it reflect on my high school year and tried to get them to look at 8th grade. I wanted to reflect and see that what they're doing in 8th grade will help them for high school. I pick helping Black Hawk Middle School because I went there as a middle school student and I wanted to help the teacher that were telling me to get ready for high school. I thought if the student hear from 9th grade student maybe they will start getting ready if there weren't already.

The first day, we got to Black Hawk and we sat in a classroom with about 15 students. We talk about what is the difference between middle school and high school. The setbacks I think we face was running out of things to say. Sometimes, we're just sitting there and waiting for a question because we have nothing to say and if that question never came, we had to hurry up and think of a topic to talk about. We overcame this by writing some questions downs or some topic or asking the student what they wanna know about high school. I felt like we were successful at our community work. We did everything as we planned the students were asking questions and nothing really went wrong. The positive I took out of this project is that it actually worked. I had doubts that the students were not going to listen or they wouldn't want to ask questions, but they were listening and asking questions and looked entertained in what we had to

Something very important to me in my life is service and that is why throughout my life I also plan to remain involved in the act of helping others in need. Throughout high school I have belonged to a youth group that’s has gone a mission trip every summer, and on these trips I have had some of the most meaningful experiences of my life which have really made me realize how good my life is, and how important it is to share your talents, abilities, and time with others who may not be as fortunate as yourself.…

Being involved with Project 18 has impacted both the high school and the community throughout the last year. Project 18 also known as Political Action in which students volunteer for the community as well as candidates during the upcoming elections. I have volunteer to help numerous candidates in many ways such as door knockings and setting up signs. Our school annually has a THON that I have attended and been a part of to positively affect the high school as well as numerous foundations. When elections come around I have went around with fellow classmates to get people who are 18 or will be before the election to register to vote. Helping people register gets the communities numbers of voters up, in a time where numbers are down. Drugs are…

Mentoring and working with troubled youth at Academy Park High School was a really interesting experience. Prior to this opportunity, I felt as though I would be able to change those I worked with and give them the same mindset that I had. After working with these students and getting to learn about their lives and their challenges I soon realized that one mindset is not the only mindset that one should have. I quickly realized how much of an impact one's background could have on their entire view of life. This was a really amazing volunteer opportunity that really helped open my eyes to…

Something that I have done that I believe has made my school a better place would be joining Link Crew. Link Crew has allowed me to help the freshman as they join the school. A big influence I had to join Link Crew was that I had a great Link Crew leader that really helped me when I was entering freshman year. Being in Link Crew, I have met many freshman entering the high school that I am able to help just as my Link Crew leader did for me. As a Link Crew leader I started off with a number of students in a group that we meet during their orientation. By having this group, I attend for them to get comfortable and know that they have peers along side them that are adjusting to what they can expect in high school. Throughout the school year, I…

My most significant contribution to a community, without any doubt in my mind, has been to both of my local Boys and Girls Club of America branches. I first began to go to the Boys and Girls Club shortly after the divorce of my parents. In the beginning, I was at my lowest point, until I learned many of my peers were in a similar situation. From that point on, I helped the staff at the Club, mentored younger kids, and provided assistance to anyone who needed it. Quickly, I became the Club’s youth of the month, and in 2013 became the Boys and Girls Club of Zionsville’s youth of the year, the highest honor a Boys and Girls Club member can receive. In the Club, everyone had forged a bond of understanding with one another. In some way, we were…

I use to be picked on my older kids for random things I could not change. So in return I never judge others by the way they look, act or are. In fifth grade I joined a group called M&Ms (Mentors and Mediators), where I helped kids with their academic struggles. It may of been one of the only clubs I have been in but I realized that when I help other people, they inturn constantly lend me a hand. Even though I have not participated in frequent clubs that help the school and/or community, but I think NJHS will help me better my community.…

There is not a single feeling greater than the one you experience when you make a positive impact on someone else’s life. Thankfully, I was able to experience that in my junior year. My high school has a program called Link Crew that is designed to help alleviate the anxiety of freshmen’s transition in to high school. When I signed up to get involved, I never realized how strongly it would affect not only my life, but also the life of everyone else who came in contact with it one way or another. Junior year was my first year involved in the program. At first, I was not sure if I would be able to handle it because it was a club that required a large time commitment. I was already involved in my advisory board, student council, and also I had been on the varsity softball team for both years prior to my junior year, along with working anywhere from three to five days a week. It was a very busy time in my life for a while, but I soon came to realize that Link Crew was completely worth it once I started seeing the effect it had on my school.…

In the beginning no one had an idea on which side we were going to be in the debate on the topic, which I got was Stem Cell Research and after researching both sides and learning the pro and cons about Stem Cell Research. My group was given the pro side, which means that I was supporting doing more research on stem cells and learning how they work. I was actually really excited because when we were researching both sides, I was agreeing more with the pro side. This project showed me that it does not matter, if I never heard about the topic, I just need to research. The more I did research on stem cells the more I would understand my topic and the project. This was the first time I had a project where I have learn the material on my own and have a real debate in front of the whole class. I feel that this taught me that I have the potential to learn materials on my own. This project made me learn skills for success because in college the professors do not babysit you or make sure you do your work. The professors have so many students that they don’t make sure that every student understands the…

I had never really discussed the Senior Project with any of the 2016 seniors, so I really did not know what awaited me. It only took a short period of time to open my eyes to the tremendous task facing me and my fellow classmates. When I started writing my research paper, the information I began collecting on becoming a high school history teacher seemed very familiar. Since both my grandparents taught school for thirty-two years, I have listened all my life to their stories about earning their teaching degrees, as well as the joys and woes of their years of teaching.…
