THE FIRST MONTH’S JOUNRNEY OF BEING A PRE-DEGREE STUDENT
…..is to be independent. In a university, I find that as a student myself can do anything I want. There are no such strict rules as being in school. There are no specific uniforms meaning that I can wear either baju kurung or a t-shirt with slacks or jeans as long as it does not obligate with……. The freedom of doing anything without anyone to tell ‘no’ just makes it more interesting to be here as a pre degree student. I am not going to get a penalty if I go out as long as I am back in the college before midnight. The punishment itself is not given unlike in school when the teachers are going to make you do something embarrassing in front of the whole school. In here, I get to take care of my doings independently. Yet I know those freedoms also comes with a great responsibility. Next is the new environment of being in UiTM and being in Shah Alam itself. Because of the faculty is located a bit far from the main campus, I have to relearn how to ride a bus again. Although I have been going and back from school since my primary school years but it has been almost three years I never had been on a bus. During my time in the boarding school, my mum used to take and send me to school from home. After I graduated school I took my license and had never thought of going back in being in the overly packed bus during the peak hours. Here, it is not allowed to drive our own cars meaning that I have to ride a bus to go to class or anywhere else. Even sometimes I have to take the taxi if I am late for class but I try to minimize in riding taxis as they are costly. Another important thing that I have to be able to manage is the time. At first I tried to maintain for at least seven hours of sleeping but as time flies I realize seven hours sleeping is too long. I have to do the assignments, the revising, note taking without the guidance of any past years questions and what so ever. Not to mention the unfixed class timetable,...
