The bonds of brotherhood within fraternities have proven to be some of the strongest bonds among young men across the country. When it comes to supporting each other, it appears that the young men of collegiate fraternities are masters in the field. Whatever problems are faced by one brother can easily be backed up or even repaired completely by another, and the massive amount of time that the members are required to spend with each other due to meetings or rituals or any other function for the particular fraternity does nothing but strengthen the bond that was already set by initiation into the group. It is rare among college campuses, especially at Sam Houston State University, to see a member of a fraternity walking alone or spending any amount of downtime doing anything but socializing with the other members of their organization. This type of bonding can most certainly be considered to be a very positive aspect of participating in a fraternity, especially when the ability build relationships and work together as members of a team is one of the main concepts behind the organizations in the first place.…

My name is Tevin Hamilton. I am from Topeka, Kansas. This semester I will attend KU for my first semester of my sophomore year. I attended Barton County Community College on a tennis scholarship last year. Last year should have been a great opportunity for me to improve my game as well as improve my grades in the classroom. Unfortunately, my coach was reprimanded for athletic misconduct; he would skip my men's practice after personally instructing every girl on our women's tennis team, which I thought highly discriminated my teammates and I. Honestly, I never thought I would come to the University of Kansas or even think about joining a fraternity. However, after talking with some of the brothers in Sigma Pi I feel like I would fit right in. Sigma Pi seems like a really great opportunity to not only socialize and enjoy my college experience here at KU, but also join a brotherhood, make friends I will have for the rest of my life, and become a part of something very few people have the opportunity to do.…

Contrary to popular belief though, it is not a daily occurrence, at least not at most fraternities. Due to the immense amount of other responsibilities, it is doubtful that partying and binge drinking is number one on a to-do list for most Greek houses. Fraternity members dislike the common stereotypes formed by the general population, yet do not help themselves by partying, drinking, and behaving like wild animals. It is fine to have social gatherings occasionally while enjoying cold alcoholic beverages and talking to members of the opposite sex. It is not fine to do have parties so often that all that is accomplished is finishing the stock of beer in the basement and having someone go and purchase more. The final most common stereotype for fraternities is hazing. Hazing is a common tradition for plenty of fraternities, but according to BurntX’s online article, 10 Common Misconceptions About Greek Life, Angela Bonilla clears the issue by reassures that “Hazing a huge issue that is taken seriously by both the University and the national board of that specific sorority and…

    16) The owner of two pizza parlors located in adjacent towns wants to computerize and integrate sales transactions and inventory management within and between both stores. Benefits of Greek Life

I strongly believe that you should go Greek because all Greeks, no matter the letters on their chests, motivate their members to hold themselves to a higher standard. With those standards, Greeks more than likely value the same ideas in some way: academic, moral, social and financial. Morals generally come from one’s self-belief of what they should and should not do. To ensure this, all members of a chapter live by their rituals and creed. My sorority, Delta Zeta, for example, lives by our creed to the fullest extent. The Delta Zeta creed states, “To the world, I promise temperance and insight and courage, to crusade for justice. To seek the truth and defend it always. For those whom my life may touch in slight measures, may I give graciously of what is mine. To my friends, understanding and appreciation. To those closer ones, love that is ever steadfast. To my mind, growth. To myself, faith, that I may walk truly in the light of the flame.” We see it fit to apply these words to our everyday life to further better ourselves, as does every other chapter with their creed. Sean Meads from Rocky Mountain College states, “Greek Life holds its members accountable to a higher standard, not just in Greek Life, but in every part of life.” Hansen, a grad student working for the Huffington Post, verifies that all in all, “Greek Life benefits one by demonstrating how to be a strong, curious,…

The first thing that enters my mind when I hear the word fraternities are organizations of guys who spend their time drinking beers and having their social gatherings. Well, these accusations have been proven many times on the articles that I have read a long time ago, that most fraternity members, especially on college campuses are seen as drunks who accomplish nothing scholastically or socially. But this impression of mine has changed a little after I have done some researches regarding on the topic. Most people fail to mention the fact that there are some memberships in fraternity who value a life-long experience that help their members develop social organization and study skills and also teach true, everlasting friendship.…

When one hears the words “sorority” or “fraternity,” what comes to mind? A big house, nice clothes, or even pillow fights? Some sororities may have these things, but that is not what they are about. Sororities and fraternities have been sweeping over college campuses for years and are beginning to take over even more campuses. Katie Lambert, who wrote the article How Sororities Work, stated, “For many, a sorority or fraternity can be a great way to make lasting friendships, build a smaller community within a university setting, and find opportunities for leadership and service.”…
