Bird Mask Research Paper

The doctor’s masks were a bird like shaped mask to protect them from being infected and they believed that the plague was airborne. They believed that the disease was spread by a thing called Miasma, it was like a bad air. Although this was an imaginary treat the long beak was filled with sweet smells such as dried flowers and/or herbs and spices. Although the beak like mask had been an iconic symbol of the plague, there was no evidence that it was actually worn during the 14 century. Medical historians have attributed to the ‘beak doctor’ costume to a doctor named Charles De Lorme in 1619. He designed the bird mask to be worn with a large waxen coat as a kind of head-to-toe protection, modelled on a soldiers armour. The costume was believed
