Born Christopher George Latore Wallace on this very day, May 21 back in 1972. He's from the Bedford-Stuyvesant 'hood which is located in Brooklyn, NY. Being from the “hood,” and especially in NY, he wasn't born with a silver spoon or a gold plate in his mouth. He had to hustle for his bread and to him “hustlers were his heroes.” His “heroes” however, were drug dealers... major drug dealers. By the time he was 17, Biggie had been arrested for selling crack cocaine and he served nine months in prison because of it. But one day, he started making music. This is how Biggie became a hero for many like him so, I want to tell you about that.…

In honor of Black History Month, I’ve selected Langston Hughes as the figure I would write about, because through his poetry; Hughes displayed to America, the world through the eyes of African Americans living in Harlem, in the rough 1920s. The poet, lyricist, author, playwright, and social activist, was born on February 1, 1902, in Joplin Missouri, to James Hughes and Carrie Langston. Unfortunately, the couple divorced shortly after his birth, leaving Hughes to be raised mainly by his grandmother. When she passed away, Hughes was sent to live with his mother. In search of better jobs, Hughes’ mother would often move, and the two moved to several cities before eventually settling in Cleveland, Ohio.…
“The crimes of this guilty land will never be purged away but with blood (John Brown)”. John Brown used violence and killed many people. Not only that, but the death of two of his sons was not enough to stop him from moving on. Brown was so determined that he believed it was God’s wish that he abolishes slavery. He thought he was made for this job only. John Brown reckoned violence is the solution to achieve his goal and be successful. He led a raid on Harper’s Ferry with several men. The motive behind this was to start up a slave insurrection. But the first man killed during the raid was a black.Though Brown’s intentions were noble, the way he acted upon them were not. Therefore, John Brown is guilty of trespassing, treason, and murder.…

Born in 1969 and raised in the rough Marcy Projects of Brooklyn, New York, Jay-Z underwent some tough times after his father left his mother before the young rapper was even a teen. Without a man in the house, he became a self-supportive youth, turning to the streets, where he soon made a name for himself as a fledging rapper. Known as "Jazzy" in his neighborhood, he soon shortened his nickname to Jay-Z and did all he could to break into the rap game. As he vividly discusses…
I started dancing before I can remember, but I have been told that I was just about three. I started out at a studio that I cannot remember, doing ballet and tap. Yet, because my entire class would have been so young it can hardly be considered dance, but rather a general physical activity with friends. When I was about to turn six my entire family moved, so I changed studios to the one I am at. I still only did tap and ballet for about three years, when I started to fall behind because everyone else was taking jazz and contemporary. So when I was going to be turning nine I started jazz and contemporary. They were all so different, but they all were quite similar (except for tap, that was pretty different). When I was asked which was my favorite I could not decide because I liked them all for different reasons. I liked jazz because I now…
