Benjamin Franklin was a printer, scientist, humorist, author, and inventor, but before he became what we know of him now he was a kid. He had nine brothers and seven sisters. His father, Josiah Franklin was a soap, and candles tradesman. Ben loved reading. He read very fast for someone his age. The Franklins always had one night of the week when everyone would gather around the fireplace while one person would tell story. It had to one that no one has read, or heard, it had to be a story that you made up. Since Ben’s father couldn't afford for Ben to go to school, they would have a guest come every week, and tell about themselves. This was school for the Franklin kids. One day a judge, minister, and doctor came up to the Franklin house. They needed to talk to Josiah. By law every child had to go to school, Ben wasn't. Once Josiah told the judge, minister, and doctor that he couldn't afford it they let him get the order of the night watch. This way Josiah could afford paying for the books in the Boston Latin School. Ben was good at Latin. Once he finally was able to recite an Aesop fable in latin, but because of their master’s mistake they quit the school. After this he still needed to go to school, so he went to Writing School. In writing school you didn't only write, you also did many other subjects. Ben was good at all of them, except arithmancy. He didn't understand carrying in addition. Since he didn't understand subtracting, he was terrible a subtracting. He couldn't even ask the teacher for help, because there were too many students to look after. All the teacher would do is write the problem your slate and go on. Many students came for help in spelling, reading, writing, everything except arithmancy. Ben was the best swimmer in the whole writing school. He could do all the fancy strokes. Later one day he thought maybe he could swim faster with paddles on his …show more content…
One day Ben couldn't, but the conversation his brother, and the writers were having. He had the thought of writing for the paper too. He had been writing his own pieces secretly which no one has seen, but John. He wrote a funny story about the mud holes on the rode of Boston. He slipped it under the door while everyone was sleeping, and went back home. Once James saw this, he read it out loud to the writers. Everyone started laughing, they loved it, and it was printed on the New England Courant. The pet name Silence Dogood went all over Boston. The same paper was printed dozens of times in one day. Everyone wanted to know about Silence Dogood, and the mud holes. Silence Dogood wrote many other articles about things that should made fun of. These things got fixed in Boston. One day Ben wrote about apprentices not getting enough food, and got very thin, in a funny way. James said he could print this, because he would get too many enemies. In the fight between Ben and James wether or not to print this, Ben slipped that Ben was Silence Dogood. When James told this to his friends, they praised Ben. This made James jealous.
