Bintang Brewery Case Analysis
Time context: First established in Medan in 1929, Multi Bintang Indonesia was the first Heineken brewery outside Netherlands and is currently the leading beer company in Indonesia. In 2004, we started producing Heineken locally. Since then, our performance has increased consistently.
In October 2008, we had over 550 people (over half educated to degree level), working on our products such as Bir Bintang, Bintang Zero, Heineken, Green Sands and Guinness Stout.

Summary/Abstract: Nederlandsch-Indische Bierbrouwerijen was initially established in Medan in 1929, with a brewery in Surabaya. The Company's seat was moved to Surabaya in 1936 and in that same year Heineken NV became a major shareholder. In 1951, the Company’s name was changed to Heineken's Nederlandsch-Indische Bierbrouwerijen Maatschappij NV. In 1972 a new brewery was constructed in Tangerang.

After changing its name several times, the Company went public in 1981 and adopted a new name, PT Multi Bintang Indonesia, and moved its seat from Surabaya to Jakarta. Its shares are now traded on the Indonesian Stock Exchange.
Today, PT Multi Bintang Indonesia Tbk is the leading beer manufacturer in Indonesia. It produces and markets a range of trademark products, including Bir Bintang, Heineken, Guinness, Green Sands, Bintang Zero and Recharge.

The Company operates breweries in Sampang Agung (Mojokerto) and Tangerang, while subsidiary PT MuIti Bintang Indonesia Niaga has sales and marketing offices in all the major cities, from Medan in North Sumatra to Jayapura in Papua.
