On Monday, 18 November 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in Evergreen Presbyterian Church the Rhodes College Orchestra and Wind Ensemble performed the Baroque-N Christmas. The event was open to the public, to share their joy for the upcoming holiday. The program included the Palladio, the Suite for Strings, the Chasing Sheep is Best Left for Shepherds, the Alleluia, the Variants on a Mediaeval Tune, and the Concerto Grosso in G Minor, Op.6, No.8. I was very eager to attend the concert because the Baroque-N Christmas included works from the Baroque Era, which is my favorite period of artistic style. Leah McGray was the conductor and Jennifer Rote was the flute soloist for the Rhodes College Wind Ensemble; I don’t remember their being a concert master, which I thought was odd.…

My desire to be a part of the Tri-M Music Honor Society is driven by a passion for performing music. Four years ago, with very little experience under my belt regarding music, I joined the Dracut High School Marching Band, not knowing the difference between the xylophone and the marimba. Little did I know that playing and performing music for myself and others would lead to who I am as a person now.…

I attended The Works of Thomas Root on Tuesday, March 24th. It featured the Weber State University wind ensemble and symphonic band as well as the WSU Band Alumni. There were many pieces conducted and created by Thomas Root. Most pieces were still unpublished but they were wonderful nonetheless. He also had pieces that were dedicated to people that he had come to meet throughout his life, and a piece was dedicated to his own mother.…

The environment in the Bing theater was very classical. There was people constantly coming in which surprised me because I thought that people stopped liking classical music. My first impression of the Bing Theater was that it was very organized because there were people to greet you and hand you a program at the door. The people attending was people of all ages, but I did notice that there was a fairly large group sitting together near the front of the stage. The people that attended were dressed casually. The young musicians on stage were dressed formally compared to the audience. The acoustics were natural sound there wasn’t any amplifier. My sight line wasn’t so great which it usually is because I’m fairly short, but it good enough to see the musicians play their pieces. You could notice…

The Washburn University Recital was held in the White Concert Hall. It featured 6 different ensembles, each having their own compositions. The program began with the euphonium horn with piano accompaniment. The second performance included the flute with piano accompaniment. The third performance included the tuba with piano accompaniment. The fourth performance was a male singer with accompaniment from the piano. The fifth performance was the euphonium horn with piano accompaniment. The last performance was an ensemble that included the flute, french horn, oboe, and two clarinets. It a grand performance by the Ball State Jazz Ensembles led by three directors who of which were LaMont Webb, Freddie Mendoza, and Mark Buselli. The concert was held in the beautiful concert theatre, Sursa Hall. The concert was twice as better as the first jazz concert I went to in October which had no match at all. This concert for sure will be one I will not forget with beautiful voices of the vocalists and will most likely urge me to attend more next…
