BILLY ELLIOT
BILLY ELLIOTT “Hopefully, young people will see that you can be young and make the sacrifices to follow your dreams.” In order to find success and follow your dreams you must face and overcome obstacles. The best example of this is the movie Billy Elliot and Billy’s perserverance in overcoming his obstacles. In the movie Billy Elliott Billy is faced with numerous obstacles all to become a ballet dancer. There were three major obstacles Billy faced that were his peers and communities varying forms of disapproval of him becoming a ballet dancer, Billys families financial issues, and lastly Billys own self doubt.
One of the major obstacles Billy overcame in the movie Billy Elliot was his community's disapproval on him becoming a ballet dancer. He overcame his family's disapproval and scorn against him becoming a dancer. This was a major step because as a child your parents approval and support is the most important thing for a child to succeed and prosper. And for Billy to overcome his fathers and especially his older brother’s Tony scorn and not being influenced by what they told him was a huge obstacle he overcame to become a ballet dancer. Billy also overcame Debbie’s attempts of stopping him to go for his audition in London by following his heart. As well as not listening to Michael’s opinions that it isn’t worth becoming a dancer. Billy overcame a huge obstacle that most kids his age wouldn’t have.
Another major obstacle Billy overcame was his financial issues. His father and brother were on strike at the time and for him to ask for a seemingly large amount of money to go and study ballet would be a huge burden for his family. As well as if Billy wasn’t successful in ballet it would’ve been a huge waste of money adding to the hardship his family was already going through. Another important obstacle Billy overcame concerning his financial issues is how regardless of his family participating in the strike he was already living in

From berry-picking, crawfish-catching, to coon-treeing and mountain lion-slaying, there isn’t anything he wouldn’t do to get what he wants. This quote from Chapter 3, Paragraph 17, “I caught crawfish with my bare hands [...] I tore my way through the blackberry patches until my feet were scratched raw and red from the thorns,” truth is found in the theme of determination, because once again… he pushed through it all, he always had.…

During the book Caitlin always talks about how Billy has it better because he lacks the physical possessions that make you set in life. This is probably true, but for Billy getting to this stage forced him to rid pretty much all his physical possessions. “As dad stood over me, and said, no more sport, no more forever.” The relevance of this quote in this paragraph could be questioned, but it signifies two physical possessions of Billy before he left home, sport, and his father. These two possessions are the main reason why Billy left and played a strong role in his decision. His father took away his love of sport, among many other things, and when Billy realized that it was getting too much for him, he left behind the few remaining things he still cared for; Bunkbrain his dog was hardest for him to leave. Billy then arrived in Bendarat with nothing; he wanted a fresh start, with nothing.…

Patrick Swayze was born a fighter. He was born six weeks premature and his mother, Patsy, had a grueling child birth. None of the doctors or nurses knew if he was going to make it, but miraculously – baby Patrick survived. Patsy owned a dance studio in Houston, where Patrick supposedly learned to dance before he could walk. His father, who went by the name of Big Buddy, was a strong Texas cowboy, but wasn’t afraid to play the role of a mother every once in a while. Patrick didn’t strive academically; his true passions were dance and football. His high school football career was cut short when he suffered a knee injury. He was forced to rest his knee, otherwise he’d never be able to play any sport or dance again. Being a true fighter, Patrick wanted to work through the pain, which he did in his acting career later in life. He was brave as a child and very stubborn and persistent about getting his ways. He was also quite popular with the girls in his dance classes. Being one of the few straight male dancers at the time, Patrick was looked up to by the younger girls and boys and was all of the older girl’s crush. Patrick’s childhood affected his adult life tremendously; without Patsy, Patrick wouldn’t have been dancing his whole childhood. Without his parents, he wouldn’t know what the feeling of love felt like. Without his bravery he developed as a child, he wouldn’t have been his own stuntman in some of his action movies.…
