Bilingual Education Philosophy Statement
As a first generation college student I wish to go beyond what is expected of me. My parents never made it to college and like many other families here in the U.S, they came to this country in search of better future. Moving 4,000 km away from your homeland is not easy. Over the years, I have gained much more than what I lost. This country gave me the opportunity to discover what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. However, getting to where I am today has not been an easy road. I have had to overcome obstacles, face discrimination, and learn how to keep on going even when the going gets rough.

However, an occupation does not describe everything about me or the path I have taken to get me to where I am today. I wish to teach for a few years in different schools in the New York City Educational System. I also wish to compare the different types of Bilingual Education Programs in New York City and decide the type of program I want to be a part of. I believe that I can make a difference in the New York City Educational System by contributing to the instruction of newly arrivals. In two semesters, I will begin student teaching. I am overcome with emotions to start this new phase in my life because everything that I have is due to never giving up. I was doing a project on Winston Churchill in my 10th grade social studies class when I came across one of his most famous quotes, “When you are going through hell, keep on going. Never, never, never, give up.” Since the age of sixteen, I have always worked. I am grateful to have started working at a young age because it has taught me several valuable lessons. I learned how to manage my time and how to be responsible. Having to work at a young age also allowed for me to be able to balance a job and still do well in school. Not to mention the experience that I gained as a tutor, mentor and counselor. As a junior at CCNY, I am enrolled as a full-time student and work as a customer service representative for an airport service
