Big Hero 6 Analysis

Hiro's Journey Hiro Hamada of Big Hero 6 once said, “We didn't set out to be superheroes. But sometimes life doesn't go the way you planned. The good thing is my brother wanted to help a lot of people and that's what we're gonna do.” This quote summarizes the many heroic traits and attributes incorporated in the award-winning film, Big Hero 6. Directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams, Big Hero 6 (2014) takes place in the city of San Fransokyo. It revolves around Hiro and his companion, Baymax, as they avenge Tadashi's, Hiro's older brother, death. Hiro developed his heroic character by taking on a mission to avenge his brother's death while saving San Fransokyo from harm as he fulfills the steps and stages of the heroic journey. The film
He is in awe of their cool inventions. Tadashi then introduces Hiro to his own invention of a healthcare robot he named Baymax. Baymax is marshmallow-like; he is big, white, puffy, and huggable. He is what Tadashi calls a healthcare provider. Baymax is capable of scanning people for symptoms and Tadashi has programmed him with thousands of medical procedures. Baymax will then deactivate once one says, “I am satisfied with my care.” Hiro is fascinated and is convinced that he wants to enroll in San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. However, Tadashi explains to Hiro that he must contrive of an invention that will astound Professor Callaghan in order to get into the school. After a lot of trials and errors, Hiro finally came up with an invention of thousands of tiny bots that are controllable with his thoughts/mind. Hiro amazes everyone, including Professor Callaghan, with his bots at the Student Showcase. This is the Call to Adventure stage in Joseph Campbell's 'Heroic Journey.'
