Berkman, a Psychologist wrote about various problems we procrastinate. One that caught my attention was that it’s a choice whether to complete an assignment, do something fun or simply nothing. He quotes “When the value of something else outweighs the value of working now.” More clearly students don’t see the value of their homework any better than going out to a party and having fun so they leave homework undone and so something more pleasurable.…

There’s several reasons why people, including myself, procrastinate. First, let me give a formal definition of what I’ll be discussing. The dictionary defines procrastination as putting off doing something, especially out of habitual carelessness or laziness; to put off something needlessly. I’ll be elaborating on this definition since they’re good reasons but it goes deeper than this. There’s laziness, personal issues, and carelessness and all of these things cause that dysfunctional thing called procrastination.…

Given the word quadrant, people can be divided up into four groups - you can be the “Procrastinator”, a “Prioritizer”, something called a “Yes-Man”, as well as a “Slacker”.…

College is difficult, it demands a lot of your time, and attention. Have you ever said the words,” I will do it later”? We are all procrastinators in some way or another; the difference is some people stick to their deadlines (with the proneness to misjudge the amount of time it takes to finish). According to Center for Student Excellence (CSE) advisors many college students find themselves waiting until the last minute to study or complete assignments, and students often find themselves procrastinating due to their newfound independence, a multitude of distractions and a lack of motivation (Patrick, 2014). One explanation for procrastination is that it is a choice. We have a choice to complete a task now instead of later. Another explanation is that it is a way to deal with anxiety, boredom, guilt, frustration and anger. When we procrastinate it can adversely affect our health. In a study done in 2007, researchers found that while at the beginning of the semester students who procrastinated showed less signs of illness and lower levels of stress than non-procrastinators, by the end of the semester, the procrastinators were found to have higher levels of stress and illness…

Procrastinators meet… Tomorrow! This is a sentiment shared by procrastinators alike. To merely postpone doing something is not procrastination, rather, regularly practicing postponing, qualifies the behavior of procrastination. Idleness, slothfulness, lethargy, and indolence are all characteristics of the negative behaviors associated with the lazily behaving college student. Laziness negatively affects college students on a national level. It can adversely affect the students’ enrollment process as doing so can cause discouragement from registering for courses, which would severely disrupt a students’ semester and possibly admission. Meeting the demand of a college academia can be an arduous task for college students. Laziness can impede upon this task, leading students to fall behind in course work, assignments, quizzes, and exams. Doing so has negative consequences, and procrastination, where the students has either work harder with very little or no time, or cram to meet deadlines, ultimately, causing the student to lag. Failing to keep up with the courses due to laziness will, in due course, bring about the disengagement of the college student. Not being able to meet deadlines, and falling behind can cause lack of involvement and can sometimes lead to a student dropping courses or failing altogether. These adverse affects can reflect badly on the lazily behaving student, and the attending institution alike. The behavior of laziness has an adverse affect on college students at a national level, and should be avoided in order to maintain superior academia.…
