We live in a country and culture where freedom is highly valued, and for good reason. The difficulty, however, arises in our definitions of freedom - what means and what it should look like. One may view freedom as the ability to do as one pleases, while others believe freedom still operates under limitations. These, as well as other definitions, aside, the Bible is clear in its message that true freedom only comes in, through, and from Jesus Christ. These 12 Bible verses about freedom are removed from their original context, but that does not detract from the fact that each verse and passage show how freedom comes from a life in service to God, only made possible through the saving act of Christ. With all that said, here are 12 Bible verses about freedom, all of which can be used for future study or reference.
John 8:31-32 (#1 of 12 Bible Verses about Freedom)
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
Acts 13:38-39(#2 of 12 Bible Verses about Freedom)
38 "Therefore, my brothers and sisters, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. 39 Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.
Romans 3:21-24 (#3 of 12 Bible Verses about Freedom)
21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short

Sometimes when reading the Bible during an emotional time, I think it’s easy and/or convenient for some to associate one verse to fit their situation. For instance, when a person has committed a sin repeatedly and continues to ask for forgiveness, only to commit the exact thing again. They could read from the book of 1 John, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9 New International Version) This is not to be taken that we can continue to do the same sin. We must repent. The book of Luke says, “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15:10 New International Version) As Christians, we must always pay close attention to all aspects of the literary context and genre of the entire Bible. We must ensure that we do not selectively interpret the words to fit our needs. Remember, this book – the Bible - is a guiding doctrine.…

Romans 8:1-4, Life through the Spirit “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.” Romans 8:1-4…

However, Romans 6:15 continues the thought process of dying to sin. A slave is obedient to the master whom that slave serves. If the slave is trying to please self, he will be obedient to self. After baptism, one becomes a slave to God, and should serve God. By submitting to the will of God, we become a slave to righteousness. Unlike the U.S. we cannot simply sign a independence from Satan. One who commits ANY sin breaks the law, and sin is lawlessness. If you have committed a sin, you have broken the law, and you are seperated from God. In order to be reconciled with God, and be freed from the chains of sin, we must make a declaration of dependence on God. We do this by repenting, and becoming baptized. We must also be obedient slaves to God, and do the things that He tells us to do, instead of doing what we want to…

Matthew 6:25-30 O you of little faith? This passage of scripture comes from the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus has left the crowd, and is now in the mountains teaching the Twelve Disciples. This specific passage is Jesus talking about how we should not be worried about our needs, because God knows our needs and takes care of us. Therefore our human anxiety for our physical needs is invalid, because Jesus explicitly tells us that we have no reason to worry.…
